Very grateful for your information on 1 euro properties, being a retired plumber and builder, I know only too well that most of those properties would have a lot of structural issues considering wars over the years and earthquakes and tremors in the past, what one may think it could be a 50,000 euro Reno could run we into 200-300 thousand euros, buyer be warned!! 😮

Some, but not all, Italian consulates in the US now have the Digital Nomad/Remote Worker visa info posted. You'd be lucky to get any sort of in-person appointment/consultation made before the one where you bring all the required docs in to make the official application, though you might, if you're lucky, get someone on the phone who will tell you anything more than: go to the web site, arrange all the docs, and schedule an appointment. The required income on two sites I visited just a few days ago was the very specific amount of 24,789 euro "at the time of this writing in 2024," or $26,662. The info on what qualifies a worker is both somewhat detailed and somewhat unclear, frustratingly so, but the rest is relatively straightforward.

I like the stipulations to the visa. Good on Italy! The euro houses are a scheme at work in many places in the world. I love the concept, but think it works best for locals in those areas to buy and renovate at a lower price to keep them local. It’s a difficult thing to do from afar. Regardless, renovating housing instead of demolishing and building new will always be my preference. Lunch looks yummy, btw 😊

It would be really nice if the Italian government would make it easier for someone like myself with US/UK citizenship to get a permanent residency there with minimal effort if I had the financial means and no criminal record that would put money into the economy thereby not being a burden on society. There are many just like myself probably wanting the exact same thing. Great video Nick and more like this please. 👍🏻

There is also a retirement visa which is not that hard to get, as long as you don’t need to work, you need to prove assets and income. This leads to long term residency and eventual citizenship if you want it.

I was close to buy a 1 Euro property around 2012, the Municipally in northern Italy sent me 9 different properties to choose from and one was even an old wineyard of a couple of acers. But I never continued with the deal and even though all properties needed a lot of love it felt like a really good deal to get such property for a steal, I could use it freely and also rent it out and stay there for a few months per year without being forced to to pay taxes in Italy.

I have vistied all over Italy thru the years and wasnt worried abt the language as I speak Spanish and have taken extrnsive Italian lessons bcs I love the opera. However, you did a video with a banker sometime ago and my dream began to fall apart! You have always been straight up with us, which I so appreciated. I watch each Saturday without fail. Honestly, dear Nick, There are so many challenges it is overwhelming. If you are are North American the bureauracy is daunting. Here’s the thing about the highly skilled worker thing. You are tied to that job and that is on their mind so they KNOW you are vulnerable and have to put up with whatever they throw at you. I’m a critical care nurse, earn six figures a year working two days per week where I am, I wouldn’t consider working elsewhere for a fraction of what I earn here and to be treated badly because my employer knows I basically have nothing I can do about anything. I’d rather get into a study program and stay for a year (did that once in the 90s and travelled all over the EU on weekends.) A Clean police record means no crimes reportable. Definitely no felonies, not sure about misdemeanors but I doubt they’d accept that. Parking violations as long as they’re paid up wouldn’t matter. Any time you are in Italy for over the 90days you need to register with the local questura and get a permesso di soggiorno and at that point, you need to carry a copy of that with you EVERYWHERE **especially** when you cross country boarders whether by train or car or even by foot.

Thanks so much for a very informative clip! I enjoyed it as much as the property clips! Well.... _almost_ as much 😉👍 Question if I may.... Do you know if the €1 houses are solely within villages, or are they also found on the outskirts of them with acreage? I agree with you completely when it comes to the plumbing and electrics... Far too often do we see in home improvement shows how these two subjects have been botched horrendously! Hope you enjoyed that lunch! The patio looks cozy and comfy... Stay safe and happy property hunting Nick! All the best from Denmark 🇩🇰 and New Hampshire 🇺🇸

Typically having a misdemeanor from years ago on your record is not sufficient to prevent someone from getting a digital nomad visa, residency, and citizenship - if that's your goal. Having a felony conviction on your record is a virtual automatic disqualifier.
