Thanks for this. Baron in the Trees by Italo Calvino is my favorite book of all time. Invisible Cities was one of the first books that got me searching for important books long term.

Thanks again, Clifford. I love Calvino, too. There is a great interview with him, here on KZbin. I just watched it yesterday. What a fascinating man, what an incredible process he goes through to creates these incredible unique stories. Grateful to you for taking the time to highlight him. Love your work. Keep on Truckin' - eh.

Nice timing. I had a friend recommend this to me last week and I just acquired a copy yesterday. Looks like I should put it near, if not at the top of my pile.

One of my favorites. Turned me on to Italo Calvino and inspired a short story of my own. Loved it. Currently reading "The Castle Of Crossed Destiny"

I know I'm late to the punch here but I feel like the "Model city that I deduce all others" that Polo describes to Kublai is Venice. Every city in the book is simply Venice, told from a different angle, a different feeling, a different memory.

Perhaps a listen to The Lonesome Crowded West - Modest Mouse would be a good recommendation to Invisible Cities. It covers the theme of the growth of the West US during the 90s. Everything changed. Soon the chain reaction started in the parking lot Waiting to bleed on the big streets That bleed out on the highways and Off to others cities built to store and Sell these (plastic) rocks Well aren't you feeling real dirty Sitting in the parking lot Sitting in the parking lot - Convenient Parking

Have you read Einstein's Dreams by Alan Lightman? It's very similar to Invisible Cities except it deals with time rather than cities, and is waaay better in my opinion. Though IC was still great.

Couldn't find Calvino's "If on a Winter's Night a Traveller" interesting. Found it too artificial whether it is post modernism or something else. I love books like Zorba the Greek or One Hundred Years of Solitude

Hey man i'd like to recommend a book called The Marbled Swarm by Dennis Cooper, very strange read. It's all to do with cannibalism, pedophilia, necrophilia, incest and about everything else you can imagine. It's great but very hard to get through.

Well good luck man. I'd also like to recommend another KZbin channel (if you haven't already heard of them) they're called Red Letter Media. They are criminally underrated and they're basically the only film review channel that actually goes into detail about why hollywood movies are shit now. They're Suicide Squad review is amazing.

Why do so many English speakers mispronounce Calvino’s first name. Italo has an emphasis on the I not the A. Please take the time to learn how to pronounce a person’s name if you are going to do a video about them.
