In late 90s, there was a campaign that teached the national anthem lyrics in schools because before that most of the population didn't even know the words of the small part you are used to listen. The full anthem is 7 mins long and still not many know the full lyrics.

Inoltre fino agli anni 50-60, il nostro caro paese era molto diviso e molte persone non erano neanche in grado di parlare l'Italiano, in quanto le loro "lingue native" erano dialetti. Massaro, (missed a golden chance in the final to win the game and missed a penalty) Casiraghi, crippled, injury prone, a poor finisher, was sold by Juve to Lazio in order to buy Vialli...... Guiseppe Signori, talented, quick but used as a winger, did not play much.....If Sacchi selects the correct strikers to help Baggio...Italy Wins in 94..Brazil could not score against Italy...their defense was too good....in 98 Cesare Maldini benched Baggio, Italy loses again on Penalties......

It's not about the pace, in the past the national team didn't really use to sing the anthem like we do today. It changed with the 2006 World Cup which we won so after that it became a tradition.

The Dutch team they praise so much in 1974 only made that WC due to a mistake by the linesman against a strong Belgium team.
