I was able to walk from Thônex to Gaillard in France and also from Veyrier to Mont Saleve cable car and back into Switzerland unchallenged (Geneva) Mont Saleve costs €18 for a return which you can pay using CHF20 note and they give you €2 change. Not everywhere in Geneva accepts Euros and not everywhere just over the French side of the Swiss border accepts Swiss Francs so currencies is where it gets confusing if you end up turning up with neither and only have £sterling on you. Its the difference in currencies which gets confusing hopping over Swiss borders

It's a Schengen zone but the Swiss police have the right to do random control as they are not part of EU 😊
