Thank you for this. Some people are just terrible in knowledge sharing

I agree! One of the key aspects to implementing long term, scalable projects is the ability to effectively communicate how programmers implement in Rockwell terms (AOIs) or User-Function Blocks to have unified and standardized control and monitoring for common control devices (motor starters (FVNR, FVR, VFDs, soft-starters), smart instrumentation, SASV/DASV solenoid valve(s), cascaded/non-standard PID control etc.). In my opinion, what separates a good programmer from an average one is not how effectively/efficiently you can solve a problem, but for non-exceptional scenarios how easily another programmer can understand and build upon/improve your code. Sadly, with the way most projects are implemented, you don't usually see many people working on the same system throughout it's life cycle (imo most systems out there are still turnkey solutions binded by contract). I personally had the pleasure to work in a very flexible automation environment and we had full access to all of our PLCs/SCADA as we ourselves wholly developed/commissioned our systems, all while following our own programming standards so that projects were executed on time.

I love sharing what I know or can help people in the field. One of the many reasons is they may be able to support me in the future. You never know when if you’re in a pinch or maybe away from the site...and you took the time to explain to a new/another person how to reset a module or reboot a server...anything, it can come in handy. For example I had to replace about 8 actuator motors on our chilled and condenser water system (short details, but they take forever) so I trained one of the on site mechanical technicians how to do it...one Saturday and about 4 hours later all were replaced. I watched the control system to make sure nothing went wrong and him and his partner did in 4 hours what would have taken me by myself probably about 16. At the same time I had another crew replace a bunch of dying UV lamps in the DI water system. Sharing knowledge is important because it can save you time (or your a**) and hey, maybe your. knowledge is wrong and you get corrected...glad you didn’t apply that wrong knowledge in production.

I'm the opposite with everything. I love sharing knowledge. Hiding information is known as, "information hoarding." You are 100% correct. It is purely for ego and job security.

I have such a team around me. One of them told me on the first day of work that he wasn't going to teach me anything. Because I'm a competitor. It is very difficult to work in such a team.

Got startled by the 1st frame of the video, seeing the S7 the size of your body. I for instance do explain my code, but not fully. Part of it i keep to my self that's always on a timer, if the cheapo client delays or refuses to pay on time. Afterwards if there's no trouble with the finances, i come in to do a check on the PLC/system and remove the code that will otherwise render the PLC/system useless.
