I have a PMP cert and looking to get into IT - I have been having a hard time finding anything. Should I try IT support?

Going to have to disagree with focusing on specializing. If you are a sysadmin, you will be needed in the future and yes your duties will shift time to time. On prem or cloud doe snot matter, you will be needed to help keep infrastructure afloat. You also will not always be in these big companies where they have all the money in the world to spend on new tech and cloud for that matter. Depends a lot on the area you live in as well. You may be off in the smaller cities and not commuting very far, and a small company will more than likely be all on prem or maybe hybrid environment. In the big cities, you will see a lot of larger corporations with more money to play with in IT. You will be needed, don't get too scared everyone. Keep learning on the side, stay current, etc. You will be fine, just make sure to always be adapting and stay relevant. Otherwise you stagnate and will be worse off and also on the chopping block when it comes time for lay offs.

Some valid points about smaller companies and smaller cities. But those also come with lower salaries and usually lower or no benefits. Not saying that it is wrong to work for those companies or in smaller cities, but it definitely puts your career into a less optimal position. Those smaller companies often lack innovation or run their IT systems into the ground. You're going to be left behind by supporting older systems.

@@ITCareerGuide I agree, you can easily get left behind. What I would do in this situation to not get left behind is try and get your projects about building up the infrastructure. If you can help build up the infra. you have a great chance of building up skills and deff. a resume builder. Ive been in Azure and AWS, I have also been and still in, on prem VMWare, etc. It all ties into one another somehow some way. Yes, pay is a whole different story. I guess to be careful you are not stuck supporting old systems prior, is ask the question's in the interview and look at the job posting. Again, that is a whole other subject and conversation.

@davidbriseno910 with increasing use of AI technologies, will there still be a demand for system administrators or will be there be much fewer job openings?

@shameermulji well I can't tell the future, I feel no matter what your sys admins will still be needed. Equipment, hardware. Software. Still needs to be maintained. The role may shift a little bit but that is normal. Not every company will have the money as well to adopt all these cool AI features. Sys admins will still be needed. You either adapt or get left behind though.

Quick question... I was laid off from Tech SAAS sales back in May and because it's been difficult to find work my State will pay for me to get all these certs and training from CompTia for free over 14 weeks, for entry-level Cyber security. Will these put me on the right path? -CompTIA A+ Training - Essentials IT/Remote/Depot/Technician -CompTIA Network+ Training -CompTIA Security+ -CompTIA Cloud+ I appreciate any feedback that you can give. Your content is amazing

Hey man, sorry to hear about layoff. That always sucks. The CompTia certifications are a great start and you will gain a lot knowledge. This will be a good step not just into Cybersecurity, but actually in quite a few other areas as well. Try to get some hands-on experience as well while getting certified. Even if you just set up a small lab environment in the cloud - make sure to document what you do and build it up as a portfolio so that you can show potential employers what you are made of.
