भारतीय सभ्यता की जननी सरस्वती नदी है और ये हमारी संस्कृति का अभिन्न अंग है। विश्व के सबसे प्राचीन और महत्वपूर्ण ग्रंथ वेदों का संकलन ऋषियों ने सरस्वती नदी के किनारे ही किया है। विश्व की प्राचीन नदी घाटी सभ्यताओं में से एक सरस्वती नदी के तट पर बसी सभ्यता को हड़प्पा सभ्यता या सिंधु-सरस्वती सभ्यता कहा जाता है। क्योंकि जिस सिंधु घाटी सभ्यता की बात की जाती है, वह ज्यादातर सरस्वती नदी के तटों पर बसी थी, न कि सिंधु नदी के तटों पर। सिंधु-सरस्वती सभ्यता का विकास सिंधु और सरस्वती यानी आज की घग्गर नदी के किनारे हुआ और कालीबंगा, राखीगढ़ी, हड़प्पा मोहनजोदड़ो, धोलावीरा और लोथल इसके प्रमुख केंद्र थे।

Wonderful initiative Dr. Bibek and the Team. More of this should trickle down to the History text books in India as well. It has been aptly quoted time and again in this episode- ‘Sindhu-Saraswati Civilization’ rather than ‘Indus valley civilization’ is what it should be referred to (at least here in India) I am eager to know more about it. I believe, there is a pressing need to create organized tourism zones (something like Sindhu-Saraswati-tourism circuit, having museums, organized tour guides, stay options etc., however, done in way that we do not run the risk of tourist infestation… probably by creating restricted entry by numbers), to bring in more awareness and also generate funds for further archeological excavations. I am sure a lot is moving in this direction, especially with the support of the current Government.
