Great video as always! One of the reasons, speculated about the decline of the Harappan Civilization is the capricious tectonic activities in the Himalayan plain in the 3rd millennium BCE. Sarasvati had two major tributaries - Drishadvati (who had a twin river Yamuna - which flows into the Ganges) and Shatudri. Due to a major shift in the plates, almost the entire water of Drishadvati went into Yamuna and Shatudri changed her track to meet the Indus. This created a water shortage in the Sarasvati basin, followed by severe draughts. In turn the Indus basin flooded with the excessive flow due to inclusion of Shatudri. The Harappans were in the endgame. Some moved towards the West and settled around the Mediterranean and some moved towards the Ganges in the East. The drying of Sarasvati was mentioned in the Mahabharata, where a sage Pulastya talked about sudden invisibility of Sarasvati somewhere near the present-day Jaisalmer in Rajasthan to the exiled King Yudhisthira.

Till what I have studied about saraswati river. It was a river made due to glacier of late ice age. As ice age ended the all the ice started melting and providing fertile soil thus civilization flourished. But in few thousand year all ice went down and river that were formed dried up. As all ancient civilization were dependent on rivers for those like indus killed entire civilization (not the people but cities) people migrated and civilization disintegrated.
@comunistubula44244 жыл бұрын
But the Indus still flows. My theory, a few minutes after the start of the video is that 5 million people dumping sewage into rivers is bound to lead to a epidemic of sorts. Maybe not all of them died, but, like you suggested, the survivors could have left the cities.

@@comunistubula4424 true good observation. As about saraswati river I believe that I originated from northern part of India from tip of the area in ice age as most of north India was covered with ice. 5 million people were living in different cities located at banks of different rivers. But as you suggested a pandemic kind of thing originated from a city and spread through whole civilization as all the cities where connected through trade people moving from one another like today. And apparently a pandemic like Corona that spread vast and due rivers population and sarswati river being getting dired. They might have ran out of resources and to survive in such conditions they might migrated and forced them lived in small colonies. What are you suggestions.

There's a *fantasy* book series by an Indian author - Amish Tripathi - which is based on the *Indus Vally Civilisation* . It's called 'The Shiva Triology' and it's a bestseller in India. It is a tribute to one of our gods - Shiva - and it follows his life as he discovers The Great Land of Meluha and solves its nemesis. The drying of Saraswati river also plays a huge part. You should definitely get a copy. The first book is called, 'The Immortals of Meluha'.

They follow sanatan dharma (hinduism) they believed in one god having several incarnations. The unicorn which content creator was referring was bull. It is referred to as god Shiva's carrige. You can see trident and many other signs in harappan artifacts. They were probably shivaites . They used to write in symbols formation instead of words. Pottery, farming, buisness, culture, festivals were there main fields of involvement. There is much more to be discovered in depth. This content creator tried to tell about Harappan civilization, but it seems that he had not properly researced all the available sources to make thia video much more better and conclusive. By the way it was nice to hear something about ancient indian civilization from a foreign individual.

Do look into more ancient Indian history. You missed a crucial information regarding those seals, those seals has specific animals, as per the nearest large city, like that unicorn-ish thing was used in Mohenjo-Daro, to prove the person in the city is of mohenjo-daro, when they visit another city, for diplomatic or some other reason, that unicorn was symbol of Mohenjo-Daro. Other cities had other animals, and they worked together to prevent attacks and floods, but would not interfere in internal matters of each other, like an federation. A council was elected by the rulers of the cities, which solved the problems (if any) between cities, and made sure that there would be no wars(like UN but 1000xtimes better), and also ensure that even if there are war like situations in the cities, the trade would facilitate smoothly.
