I squalled when they couldn't compete in the Olympics in 1980. They're still my favorite pair in figure skating.

This brings back memories, my mother and I used to watch Tai and Randy perform all of the time on TV. Then when they went professional, my mother took my best friend and I to see them at Madison Square Garden in Ice Capades- it was a fabulous experience!

Thank you so much for this video! Randy used to live up the street and I am so glad to see a picture of Mable ! She was always the most cheerful and inspiring teacher, no doubt the reason Randy and them went on to be the greatest. What great talent!

My heart. I got to know them when they came to my skating club in Rochester NY in the late 1970s... actually the November before they won the World Championships. When I auditioned for Ice Follies in the Fall of 1980 they remembered me and watched my audtion. I auditioned for a featured soloist spot and the line but... I was 6'2" and huge for a chorus line of male skaters and I'm black so... I waited for a spot to open up as I was deciding my future and I waited for a few months and then went on to find a career path and had a long career as a dancer choreographer, then a director and actor and playwright, and now a social historian. They taught me about elegance, and movement, line, and musicality, sportsmanship, and Never Give Up, and CLASS! Love you both!!

Aw, that's so sweet that they supported you. Apparently they were very supportive of skaters around the world.

I love them both - true athletes and professionals. They graced the world with their artistry and the world is a better place because of it ....

This was lovely! I remember meeting them and getting their autographs during a training camp in Santa Rosa California at Snoopy's Redwood Empire Ice Arena. I think it was 1981? I still have the little t-shirt I got in my swag bag. I was star struck!

Yes, "it all clicked" all right. And while my heart was broken for them in 1980 it turns out they didn't even have to compete at the Olympics to win the hearts of people all over the world.

To quote the Canadian announcer during their 1979 World Championship long program: getting more beautiful all the time.

I love Tai and Randy. They are the team that got me to try ice skating years ago. If I did it now I would probably kill myself on the ice but still love to watch them. The unison they had in there skating was perfection. Wish they could have won a gold at Olympics back in the day.

It must be so difficult to lift a partner, toss them into the air, catch them and place them gently back on the ice. Ouch, poor Randy! I hope you are healed and never have to lift anything or anybody ever again! I loved watching them skate together when they were able. Congratulations on 50 years!
