I believe toyota made no attempt in improving the Celica SS-III because they knew the refinements, would make it faster than their flagship celica, the ST205 GT4. I think Toyota gave up development of GT4 after being caught cheating in WRC. so it was dumb of them not to make it compete directly with the integra.

I wish I had an SS-3, the best we got in (LHD) Europe were the GT and the GT4, some of them with the SuperStrut suspension. No BEAMS, no LSDs. But I'm happy with my GT for what it is.

I own a ss3, amazing car i previously had a st185 gt4, and the ss3 is much better even without the turbo 4wd. So much more refined and nimble. Still have a sweet spot for the old st185 bt ultimitely would love to have the WRC st205 GTFOUR Tho!

Additionally the SS-III came with GPS Navigation, Audio system and Air Conditioning. Could of used manual A/C (found in the SS-I with 3S-FE engine) Subtract Auto Climate A/C = 120,000 yen and Navigation n Sound System = 400,000 yen and Total Cost Celica SS-III = 1,920,000 Yen. Celica goes overlooked and underrated. Cost of Integra Type R 98 Spec = 2,358,000 yen. So the Celica is 438,000 yen = $3,900 cheaper!! Also the FTO GP Version R has a 4.312 ratio final drive, outputting more torque to the wheels. Toyota should of kept the E56 trans and thrown in the 4.5 final drive from the Rav4/Camry All trac, while keeping peak power at 7600rpm. Then TRD should of sold the 4.9 final drive option off the shelf (that came on 4WD 97-2000 Rav4's)

Hondas are overrated AF The Toyota MR2 G-Limited and Celica SS-III are much better street cars, have more features, better value for money, much more solid and better built, even then they are only slightly slower than an Integra Type R around Tsukuba Circuit. Not to mention those 2 Toyotas are around 100 kg heavier than the Integra Type R yet can still corner just as well or even better than the Integra Type R.
@justintowers82303 жыл бұрын
i am aware that the celica didnt come with HID like the Type R did. so add another $200 to that price point.

Integra has a 200lb advantage with No A/C The SS-III has all the same tire n wheel combination, suspension components (sway bars, struts and springs) and brakes as the 1994 SS-II. All Toyota did, was add Helical LSD, installed Recaro seats and new engine for 98-99 SS-III model Its the same thing as if Honda were to put a Type R engine in a 1994 Integra SI-R/GSR chassis without making it lighter and tuning the suspension and brakes. Additionally the SS-III came with GPS Navigation, Audio system and Air Conditioning. Subtract Auto Climate A/C = 120,000 yen and Navigation n Sound System = 400,000 yen and Total Cost = 1,920,000 Yen. Cost of Integra Type R 98 Spec = 2,358,000 yen. So the Celica is cheaper by 438,000 yen = $3,900!

I owned an ST202 SS-II. 3SGE (non BEAMS), with the LSD, ABS etc. I adored it. Beautiful car. I sold it for a DC2 Integra Type R. The Tegga is just better performance wise, in every way. The celica was a much better road tripper/GT car (obviously since the Type R was designed for the track) but it'd never beat the teg in a race, even on a more open track than tsukuba. Even the GT4 couldnt beat the teg on tsukuba
