Roelof ‘Pik’ Botha is South Africa’s and, at one stage, the world’s longest-serving Foreign Minister. His outgoing personality and superb debating skills led to his rise within the ranks of the National Party’s diplomatic corps. And in 1994, with the advent of democracy, Botha’s 40 years as a flamboyant messenger between two warring worlds was finally brought to a resolution. Pik Botha became one of the few ministers who survived to serve in both the
apartheid and the ANC governments.
