Good video. It always amazes me how simple the timing is on an EJ, yet folks are scared to tackle it. Couple things that may help your viewers - you didn’t mention bleeding the tensioner. Aisin recommends cycling the hydraulic tensioner 3 times with it upright before installation. Also it’s good practice to turn the motor over by hand a full rotation (2 turns of the crank pulley) to make sure the timing marks come back to in time and there is no binding as you turn it over. Good stuff. Love your channel

Driver side intake pully may spin on you as you take the belt off, not the end of the world if you have moved the engine to TDC as you should before starting the timing service. it is possible to spin the intake pully without popping the bolt cover off but if you use a cam alignment tool it will be necessary to remove. I recall the intake needs to rotate clockwise and exhaust counter clockwise if they do end up spinning on you. I didn't see any mention of bleeding the tensioner, did your kit recommend it?

Should I just replace it? Is there any meaningful upgrade to be made? I've also seen that the screws internal to the oil pump can back-out sometimes, so maybe I should just remove the oil pump so that I can loctite those screws in place?

Is it possible to have all the marks perfectly lined up when you did timing but you still be out of time? My tuner told me that you can't rely on the marks but you have to count the teeth on the belt from the crank to the cam on the driver and passenger side? He said it's supposed to be 54.5 teeth from Passenger to crank, and 51 teeth from Crank to driver side cam mark.

Passenger seat SRS harness. If you want to, you can repair it. In the industry we are not allowed to repair them. If you use a crimp connector or even solder it back together you have the potential to change the resistance of the wire. More resistance could cause the airbag to deploy late, less resistance could cause it to deploy early, or it could not deploy at all. Hence why we can not repair them, super big liability issue.
@Smeedia4 жыл бұрын
Should I just leave it then!? 😅
@BlazeOn884 жыл бұрын
@@Smeedia I would recommend replacing the whole harness, which is probably about $1000 to 1500 for just the harness, plus probably need to remove 90% of the interior to put the harness in. If you just leave it alone (i would find the wires and individually wrap them in electrical tape) it should be fine. The passenger airbag just won't work.

I also had to replace that short hose on the oil cooler/heater. But I used a generic hose from Autozone for $1. I didn't even consider Subaru. My local Subaru places have almost nothing in stock ever. Actually pretty disappointed in the Subaru service department. They don't seem to know that much about their cars compared to other companies. They always ask for the VIN number every time and I have to tell them that the VIN will not help them with how modded this car is lol. But the parts counter at my local place when trying to find new window stabilizers has littery argued with me trying to say that those parts weren't on the car. Haha, I have 4 windows each window has 2 stabilizers I usually have to show them the Subaruparts.com site showing the part number. Like they don't believe me. My Subaru dealer is charging me $300 for the install, I bought my own parts. That said $600 for my timing belt and waterpump only because I don't have the time and space to do it.

I would have spun the timing belt before putting on the timing belt covers after taking the pin out of the timing belt tensioner have to know it is going to be fine it should be spun at least twice just saying
@Smeedia4 жыл бұрын
I rotated it twice before throwing the covers back on just to help set tension but always a good idea to do so and to verify timing

@@Smeediaquestion, can i just install a waterpump without a new tensioner ?
