Its Coming! LAX Metro Transit Center Construction Update - January 2025

The LAX Metro Transit Center has been in the making for years, and is finally nearing opening! With a speculated opening sometime in March, this station is mostly done with some extras still needed to be worked on, as you'll see in the video! Some parts of the station are still seeing large amounts of construction activity, while others sit ready for use. The tiles are missing under the people mover part of the station because they had to redo them. Some vehicle that didn't quite have enough clearance passed under there sometime last year or the year before and damaged the underside of the station. So, they had to fix it and as of now, it still isn't quite done being repaired yet.

Metro or LAWA could've posted "low clearance" signs to prevent further damage to the bridge.

​@@alexandrosmartinez508 Actually, there is a considerable amount of clearance under that station. I think the vehicle had a crane or something that was partway extended when it passed underneath the station.

I see this makes sense since theyve been like this for quie awhile, probably still getting parts and manufacturing new tiles if necessary, its definitely interersting following this little side story in the station's construction!

I spoke to an LA Metro rep yesterday, and they had some interesting insight into the opening timeframe for the LAX/Metro Transit Center Station. It looks like it will open in Spring 2025. That means sometime between April and June. It is sooner than I had been told of before by a different LA Metro rep. That could imply the testing is going better than expected. Very exciting!

If Santa Monica doesn’t change their Routes 3 and Rapid 3 to reflect on the new LAX Transit Center in April, I can wait until the next opportunity (June or August 2025). Beach Cities told me they will do a service change once the facility is fully operational.

@@nathanielcoleman5694This happened with Torrance (aka Mary K. Giordano). They promised us a Summer 2022 opening, only to have it pushed back to June 2023. I attended every community meeting for the Summer 2022 Service Changes at Torrance Transit.

@nathanielcoleman5694 No one is lying. There are many things that can come into play that can genuinely delay a project. That is why they've NEVER committed to an official opening date. They've only given an estimated timeframe. Even now, the LA Metro rep couldn't commit to an actual date. The most specific they could get was Spring 2025. These are very complicated projects with many moving parts. A 6 month delay from an original estimate opening timeframe is not unusual or a big deal. The big deal was building it to begin with. Many cities in the USA could only dream of having both the political will and the financial support of the local residents. Even San Diego residents recently voted down additional funding for future expansion. San Diego's LRT system is second only to LA's in the USA.

Not currently unfortunately, the shuttle buses still exist between Westchester/Veterans and Aviation/Century, but on apple maps they are preparing to show real-time data for when it opens!

I'm fairly sure itll be open by then unless another delay comes by, which would truly suck, this would be good for Big blue bus to move their route 3 through this station instead of the LAX City bus center, which is loosing lots of bus service, if im being honest thats good since its essentially a large concrete platform with nothing else.

I was aware that two of LA City's bureaucracies, LAX and Metro were competing for design and control of the Airport connection, but I did not know that within Metro the bus and Rail factions were also being abrasive to each other with regard to this project. No wonder it has taken so long to get it done.
