Shoutout to your buddy Mario for helping me out. Overbridge tip- you can take the voices out of the main outputs so you don't need to have then "main" Rytm L/R and just use it as an effects send, including sending audio from your DAW into the rytm over USB. Wild shit. Also: For live sets, the RYTM and the MPC 1k are best friends, trust me.

Happy to see you using the RYTM Mk II. I think I commented to you about this before - its such a good drum machine. I was surprised you hadn't been using it already. I use the same setup - OB into Ableton Live. Don't get any jitter - it's steady clock from the DAW. I can then feed that clock out from the RYTM to other hardware. It eliminates the need for a multiclock device. I also have been using the Maschine Mk3 a lot and it's not as "sexy" as the RYTM, but I wouldn't be blown away if you explore this path as well. It seems we have a lot of similar gear and make similar tracks. Your journey on here has many of the same challenges as mine. Which is why I love the channel!

I have a Reaper template that's a basic drums/bass/guitar/vox project and set up with my typical channels already routed based on channel 1 on the Audient is drum OH L, track 2 is OH R, 3 is snare, 4 is kick, etc. So easy to get a session up and running that way.

Really nice. One neat thing, that I'm sure you know, with Overbridge (or at least on the DT version of it) is that you can also sample over USB as well. As such I've ended up having an Ableton return track heading to the DT outputs and then just send stuff to there when I want to sample it. Once less thing for me to plug-in as I tend to take the DT to other rooms quite a lot. That said I am kinda tempted to switch to how you've done it for a bit as I can def see some benefits.
@RiczWest4 жыл бұрын
Great as usual. Mac Minis RULE! :) I've been a long time Ableton and Push2 user which presents the same problem re session / arranger view... I find that I alternate - sometimes I (quite often) start in session view, then do a recording from there with the different parts, then switch to composer. Yes, you've then "locked in" those sounds, but copy/paste/trim is your friend :) Nothing to stop you rinse-and-repeating though... Other times, I just do things in composition mode, although I rarely flip back to Session mode as generally I've laid enough of a structure down. I've recently bought an MPC ONE and am still trying to figure out how to incorporate that beyond sample the output - that Overbridge Mode would be Awesome!

Those are all really good tips Richard! I’ll give that a shot. I have Push 2 as well and I really like it! But I feel that it forces me to work in session view more than I like. It's expensive but with analog stuff I prefer using a summing mixer. Most of them have daw outs as well, and I mostly use Ableton clips with midi out only, so that way you do catch "the tail end of the synthesizer" since you're only playing a note or doing cc, and you can expand to analog effects when financials permit it haha I'd recommend completely going a completely different route than the Analog Rytm if you need inspiration, something like a deluge, the circlon, maybe the medusa or just a polyend tracker or seq. And of course euro rack sequencers which you have been experimenting with. I feel the analog rytm mkii is an amazing device and was thinking it'd be perfect for you during the mpc section, but if you're in a bit of a sludge then just switching things up entirely is the better way to go and the analog rytm is just too similar of a workflow IMO On the other hand, the analog rytm is the perfect addition to such a set up, so hey I'm not saying you shouldn't buy it🤷

Man, I have the exact same problem with you.. I love working on the session view but the tails thing can be so frustrating.. They should have like a looping starting mode and an end sample playback market or something to fix this.. Using external reverbs and delays is almost unusable for session view..
@FuZZbaLLbee4 жыл бұрын
I think if you use abletons reverb and delays, instead of making them part of the sample, you don’t have this issue. It you wat to use hardware reverb and delays then maybe do some routing out and back into ableton. Have to check this myself.
@Sinesquares4 жыл бұрын
@@FuZZbaLLbee Yeah, exactly. If you use plugin reverbs and delays you have no problem, but you’ll not be able to use your pedals and external effects.. The solution I’ve come up with is to just play the parts for as much bars you want them too and keep the tails when you place the part in arrangement.. But you’ll have to play like 16 bars (or as mush you need to) of a pad chord progression to keep that. To kind of fix this, I play a small part with the hardware effects and then place a plug-in reverb and delay at the end of it.. And it sounds ok..

Hi Ricky, my name is Ivan great video on how you have your audio routed. It looks cool. I have my audio routed from my audio/midi interface without a patchbay since my studio is set up in my bedroom and dont have room to hook up all devices then I'd be able to use a patchbay to audio route things the way I want to. I noticed you have the focusrite audio interface (the red one). I think Focusrite makes really good audio interfaces for audio recording. I have a digidesign 003 rack factory audio/midi interface by digidesign which is now Avid. I had it since '99. It works great still just that everytime I turn up or down on the volume I hear a staticky noise. So I cleaned the inside with a air spray and it was fixed but after awhile that static noise appeared again. So im having thoughts to just buy a new audio interface or just wait.

In case you're reading my comment: In case you'd take off a day or two from the computer and just connect let's say the Rytm / MPC, another sequencer, a synth, an FX unit and yet something else. What kind of (analog) gear would you use to mix those together (maybe route some sub buss to a record in).Which kind of mixer would you suggest / which features should it have? I'm asking out of interest of course, because I wonder what would be the best computer-free solution? (apart from the fact that I can't afford an 8 INs interface (with decent quality) so I'd rather have an analog mixer which routes everything hardware-related as some kind of a sub-mixer, and then into a 2 or 4 INs interface. Or would you suggest not even going this way but instead saving all the money for an interface with more inputs? But what if I wanna jam in the PC-free in the kitchen or carry some gear to a friend or rehearsal room - I wouldn't unplug and carry around a 19" rack device etc.)

Board mixers just dont really make sense anymore except for uses where your quickly changing levels for different things, like a live show with multiple bands. Most of the time your going to set levels and leave them that way with minor changes until the song is done. Why devote a crazy amoun of space to a 16 volume up and down knobs? We know we're gonna use the eq in the DAW anyways. IMO mixers are obsolete for the electronic musician. Much better to spend that money on a quality rack EQ, and other rack FX. Either things that are character pieces that software can't do, or mastering units.

I like to eq my 8 outs on my external mixing desk and in my mind I can imagine a way to have my 8 outs into my patch bay that would feed my audio interface through my mixer. Main headache is to figure out the solution of the mixing desk I have that has plenty of ins, but not equal amounts of outs. Would be awesome if you'd figured that out to work already.

Really enjoyed this but still have questions... maybe somebody can help me as I am getting really confused: I want to be able to connect two 19 inch rack pieces of gear, a Compressor and a EQ to my DAW master bus in Ableton through my M-Audio Air 192|6... will I be able to do it with this interface which only has 2 ins (already taken by my Korg Minilogue XD) and 2 outs (monitor outs, already used)... or will I need a mixer? and how to I go about connecting them? daisy chain?... thanks for any help!

I just record two of my synths as mono into my MPC live. Then I export it as an ableton file. That way I have the MPC tracks and the audio tracks as separate channels in ableton. I which I had more inputs instead of outputs on my MPC live
