May you are an absolute star. We have just had a hire boat for 4 days and both of us said how much we admire you now that we know how difficult the weather can make things and how every lock set up is slightly different as in the room to moor up before or after. We also admire you doing this whole living onboard alone. Hats off to you May ❤

Boat life is so easy: The other day in the wind: I reversed around a blind corner (58ft with hubby on towpath as my 👀), boats galore in the way, into a very busy, and windy basin/junction, turned into a tight bridge, MORE boats, MORE wind - I did it, and hit NOTHING 🎉 The things we have to do, and we LOVE it ❤😂 I had dreaded the reversing, even thought about spending two-hours getting to the winding point and back, rather than suffer the reversing! I was truly dreading it! We smashed it, and we should be proud 💪

Good work May. Sometimes you have to push yourself out of your comfort zone and challenge yourself. I would advise you to keep the ratchet lever engaged with the gearing when you are raising the paddles, if your windless was to slip from the gog (especially one handed) you can cause a lot of damage if it hits you. It is a safety feature.

Another Amazing Vlog May. The power of positivity. I love how you analyse the approach to challenges in life, wise words. You are a very resourceful person. So many hurdles you navigate all alone and, you Vlog at the same time, it’s impressive. Loads of your personal skill sets on show with your hard work ethic, sense of humour and your honesty. Well Done, yet again May another uplifting Vlog 👏👏👏

When setting out to do something, and you are in doubt, just put one foot in front of the other and move forward. It worked for me for 38 years of work in some very difficult situations. Each adventure has a positive OR negative side. It all depends on whether you have learned from it or been threatened by it. Each time you repeat the same adventure it becomes easier to work through as you are not being pushed out of your comfort zone in the same way. May, have trust in your "Baby" and keep having faith in your self. You have grown so much since your first vlog. The adventures, whether it is dealing with wind or sun, will always be a learning experience. "What is the very worst that can go wrong?" In a few weeks I might literally watch you sail by. The smile you have halfway thought says it all. Over coming your fear and just being there in the moment. There is a quote I keep in the back of my head. Hold on tightly, let go lightly. Which is my way of saying be flexible, if you reach goal or solve the problem you needed to then the way you did it doesn't matter.

I have an unusual question. Do you need a driving licence for water travel or provisional license or something, or is it just a test by the water authority to say people are able. Or is it like a bicycle & people are just trusted?
@wellbeingonwater6 ай бұрын
No licence for actually piloting a Narrowboat necessary! Which is why you get lots of tourists on them
@VeganAJohnH6 ай бұрын
@@wellbeingonwater thank you. I see loads of narrow boat owners why out litter picking & never thought of asking any of them. Very friendly people especially when they catch me litter picking or in the water doing a bit of cleaning up.

When I am in a harbour and the wind is pinning me to the wall, I reverse and the stern comes away, when clear put the boat into forward and off we go, whether it works with a canal boat I don't know but it is worth a try.
@wellbeingonwater6 ай бұрын
Cool! I think I might be too heavy for that
@shortcircuit71496 ай бұрын
Yes have to agree. If being pinned I too push the stern out a little and reverse back. Give it a try may. We have a 57 ft narrow boat.
@rayrecrok6 ай бұрын
@@shortcircuit7149 I think the science behind it is, that the distance from the prop to the rudder is so short the stern will turn out if a full rudder is applied to get you off, expecting the bow to move when it is so far off on a narrowboat is too big an ask. As I said I have never been in a narrow boat, all my experience is in ocean-going craft, full of heavy divers and gear.🤣
