This is the second single of the new upcoming album Yesterwynde, which will be released 20th of september. Tuomas announced that this single will have a typical 80ies vibe which it definitely has. I hear influences clearly by Pink Floyds The Wall and Queens Night at the opera. In the chorus right after the instrumental part - which is a great remark on typical Nightwish power - and Choir I hear Agneta from ABBA in Floors voice. Story has elements of George Orwells 1984 and the video also is directing this way. Over all you need to hear it several times - like mostly in Nightwish songs - to get the full enjoyment with it. I guess i am not the only one who heard a little Queen bohemian Rapsody. "A little Low.. A little high." kind of rhythm In the melody. The final sections have a distinct Celtic sound. I heard that type of sound in the Perfume intro as well.

I don't know about that. Pastors that propagate end of days, instead of doing anything useful, haven't been kewl for 1000s of years since the job "pastor" and nonsense like "end of days" were invented. That alone diminishes coolness factor. If we ignore that, yeah, great reaction.

A bit of a new way to go for Nightwish, with the children choir being this much present,, Floor is doing some fast phrasing here to, something like she does in the song Shoemaker, kind off i think. The Ill starred kids of your junkyard thats us humans right, People today are getting told all kind of doomsday things, AI and war, or a new virus will end the world, but this song says, the end is fear, its not near, armagedon aint coming tommrow, the due date for all these predictions have been passed many times, so life your life,dont fear it, hide the unshot guns doomsday predictors tell is gonna blast. Also notice that Floor joins the kids choir at end and connect that to her charecter she is in video, she realize something during video, Toumas said so in a interview i watched.. I didnt read the book 1984 written by George Orwell, but the song got reference to that book i belive. At first listen i needed another listen, at 3th listen the song got me, and i started like the children choir, i actually think its a pretty good song, and something not heard like this from NW before, now i listened to the song many times! This is not a Empuu shine song, there is heavy guitar rhytm in the middle section and end, but not the big Empuu solo, but i also think this song dosent need it, because the Children choir takes spotlight instead,.. The title the day off.. is missing telling what its the day off, so i think this is where you can put in the optimistic view of the song, as a listener, if you like to, and hear the song that way, the listener decide what its the day off. The original idea was this one to be 1st single, because it was a diffrent sound from NW people told Tuomas, this have to be a single, but then Tuomas decided it should be Perfume of the timelees, and this 2nd. I belive a 3th single will be out before album release, being last track on upcoming album, called Lanternlight.

Hi Amie - greetings from Scotland. Great reaction as usual. I think that this is not so much a doomsday tune but more that people over the centuries have been proclaiming that we are all doomed (Floor being the harbinger of doom in the song). The children's choir however are telling us otherwise - although they are pissed of with the older generations - this is a hopeful song.........there is a way out of this.

Hi Amie, Sick isn't it! During the song, the children are singing the chorus but at the end Floor joins the children singing the chorus...... this represents Floor seeing hope after all. You have to bear in mind this is the third album of a trilogy all allied to what man is doing to the world as we know it.

The composer, Tuomas Holopainen, has said that this song is his take against all the fear mongering that plaugues main stream media these days. It's a form of mind control to keep the masses of ordinary people in line with official narratives of the ruling class.

I'm a Finn and follewed NW's amazing journey ever since I saw them live 2004 in Helsinki. But hearing both new single releases, I was in a slump. What a dissapointment!

Considering how varied their music is, hopefully, there will be other songs on the albumn you like. I enjoyed both... but appreciate tastes vary. I wasn't sure of either of these when I first heard them. With Perfume... it was mainly that extremely long musical intro, although it worked with the video. My first hearing was the single release. I liked it once it got into the song. For The Day Of.... I was concerned it was a bit too poppy for my taste and it is quite repetitive. I like it a lot now, although I think diving into the lyrics helped with that a bit.

I love Nightwish, but this song is not sticking with me, this is the six time I've listened to it and it's missing the magic of the other songs. I hope the rest of the album gets better. It's just like Journey did with the last album, the songs never stuck like their previous ones and I just stopped listening to them for now.😞

Pastor is actually Pastori in finnish. Are u really more concerned of reaching 10k subscribers or what is actually going on in the world!? For many years Tuomas has been trying to say thru his music that our planet and human as a specie(big part of bec of religion) is more rapidly going towards the day of...u all know what. I mean, this blindness is overwhelming sometimes.

In fact, I regularly go into 3rd world countries and free people out of actual slavery, I just helped release 13 people who were enslaved in the brick mines in Pakistan this last year.
