What are some rules that you can apply to your channel?
@YesItsMeToolz
@YesItsMeToolz 19 күн бұрын
A rule I have implemented is that even though I do vlogs and have a lifestyle channel, I ensure I have a title and thumbnail idea before filming. It gives me a sense of direction, keeps me on course and helps with storytelling.

Lol are you sure? I am a prime example of it and I've only grown to 1600 over, holy cow, 15 years? (Haven't looked in a while). I can't say I've never dwelled on analytics and I did not focus on one topic (was posting anything from jokes to video games to hike) until about 4 years ago. Since then it's been slow but steady, at times frustrating because the amount of effort I put into it for a small channel, almost can't justify it. But I will tell you it has drastically improved other areas of my professional career. KZbin has been a way to keep ALL of my media skills sharp and improving while I'm creating different content for my freelance work. And as such I was working full time 95% photography, was able to pivot into video and that lead to cross selling a LOT more video work at a higher rate and eventually lead to my current job traveling the country to capture media for a major corporation where photo and video is 50/50 of my work. I've had a blast on KZbin though. Currently, I am trying figure out a way to carve out enough time during my travels to VLOG and take photos but that is such a luxury at this point. But the way I look at KZbin is like how my Dad would hose down the sidewalks as a form of unwinding after a long week and I kind of feel that way about creating for KZbin. Btw isn't that the guy from one of your earlier gimbal tutorial videos? I seem to recall that face behind some extremely bling glasses or coat or something like that.

You know Jeven, I always felt your videos contained some of the very best content of anyone. And also personally I want you to do whatever makes you happy in your life. The approach you're proposing here sounds great and I think this would be very beneficial to a lot of KZbin content creators who do get burned out chasing dollars.

I got that same feeling when watching your video the other day about this topic then later that day, I watched a longform interview with Dr. K that’s like a year old talking about this same exact thing you’re not in a proper state to make the change to anything on KZbin when you’re just whipping out your phone and getting overwhelmed with information. It’s better to dedicate time and sit down and properly go through analytics when you can give the proper time to developing a strategy to implement a change.

Hi Jeven. I think you're on to something. If you constantly watch the analytics, you'll notice that one creative video that you posted outside of your specific niche did not perform as well which leads you to further niche down, and you end up not making those types of videos, which leads to burnout. So what you've done is missed the big picture in that your creative video may have had less views, but you brought in a little bit of a more diverse audience that ends up watching your niched down videos anyway and leading to more channel growth. I hope this is correct because that's how I structure my small channel and honestly I don't know or care if it will get big because I've been through this before when I used to DJ. When my passion became a job, it was not a passion anymore.

Mate good point! I am all the way down here in Australia, and you have helped remind me of the original reason I got onto this platform. I am having so much fun with my kids, and in the end, that'll be gold for me when I am old and they start their own families. I'll plan a weekly review 7 days after upload and just before the next one. It will help me ensure my title and thumb are the best from the beginning and let them do their thing while freeing me from analysis paralysis. Stay safe my friend and cool lol

Your right, the whole scenario reminds me of when I was an employee. Start of a new job with energy then later it become mundane in the end you lack interest. And if your in a senior management role, you have to constantly come up with new ideas and ways to improve and make more money for the business. All very similar symptoms. In my experience when this happens, its time to make change.

I try to check the app only once a day, not so much for analytics, but to respond to comments. That’s one of my rules. I appreciate you bringing up the topic. I know when I started about 18 months ago, I was frustrated with all the “experts” telling me I had to pay more attention to CTR, etc., and treat it like a business, I stopped following and listening to many of them. This video helped confirm that my approach is fine. I hope you had a good hike!

This is exactly why I keep a day job. SO I can treat it like a creative endeavor and not worry too much about the money when it comes in later on. I don't worry about trying to do this for a living while working a day job that is fun. My take on YT and other creators is they try to tell you or sell you that have to do this or that to become financially independent and make a career as content creator. Some are happy to have a job and do this on their time, not dictated by the algorithm.

I've started using a second phone. (E-ink phone.) Actually it's my main phone and I'm not going to install YT studio on that one, and when I chose to take my bigger oled phone with me, I know I'm accepting the habit of checking studio and other such things. Helps me stay present when I make the right choice at least. I like the idea of getting out of the weeds though and focussing on big picture. Although I guess you'll still be seeing the granular data when you go into studio on the desktop to do your uploads and manage the content?

All very well when you have (a very impressive!) 1.07m subscribers, and you are mixing with the glitterati of KZbin in a fancy hotel, but don’t forget the people just starting out - checking comments and analytics daily is how we work out trends, keep engaged with our viewers and adjust and ‘pivot’ our content. All that said really appreciate your channel and you have taught me a lot, but this vid seems a little too much in the niche of full time KZbinr rather than full time KZbinr *with* a day job 😂 All the best Jeveb and thankyou for sharing where a lot of us would aspire to be… 🖖

Not being monetised on KZbin allows you to “stand back” and retain focus on a greater range of film projects, and not those which just attract views, but which contain little creativity. Deliberately “not” uploading some of your films tests the filmmaker as to whether the “view numbers” or actually making a film with creativity, is the driving force.

I spent a LOT of time making some very flashy and complex videos. I think I tell a pretty good story and I think my editing is on-par with some other above average creators. I havent looked in a while, but I STILL haven't broken 100 subs and Ive had this channel since before KZbin was owned by Google. ive stepped back from it for a while, mainly because i had some technical issues, and I haven't been able to get back into creating, which I love. Its a tough nut to crack.

So my gift is to understand myself and just enjoy all of our reality. One of the problems I see with many Tech, Photographers, etc. KZbinrs is they are becoming more of advertisement/ ads than anything, so it starts making hard to even rely on their opinions at times because they become skewed. Insta360, GoPro, Apple, Microsoft, Google, etc. I get it one has to get paid, but man.

individual video analytics is even more addictive than bullet chess! do not stop abruptly, slowly start by only looking at PLAYLIST ANALYTICS daily, then after every 2 days and so on until you are able to do WHOLE CHANNEL analytics monthly.

Little confusing as your prior video on how to start a youtube channel in 2024 is all about niching down and following the algorithm. Totally agree that you need to decide first on what you want out of KZbin. If it's a job, then it will be a compromise like any job becomes, after all someone is paying you for something and you need to deliver even if you don't find it fun. If it's a hobby, then you are free, and if its both then be prepared to get burned out.
@JevenDovey

If you goal is to grow a channel faster and earn an income then yes niche down and follow the algorithm, however, thats not everyones main goals. You need to figure out what you're goals are as a creator and then work backwards. My goal with these kind of videos is to give some different paths and pull back the veil of how to do it once you figure out which path you're going to go for

Jeven I agree and disagree. Here is my take on it. I am super new to KZbin (creating, not watching). For m, I look at KZbin as an extension of my business and the metrics side helps me see what is working and what is not. On the other side of the coin, its tough when you put a ton of work on a video and it gets less than expected views. It all com\es down to my creative abilities and if the views are not there it is because I haven't created enough drive for the community to continue watching (or watch at all). I actually enjoy creating videos and its always a work in progress. In any case, I see the value in what your saying.
