I'm from New Zealand and self catering holidays are very common for families here but I think the weather would be a bit of a challenge in winter. Where I live, a very cold day is 6 degrees Celsius and it never snows. Kiwis would love this Onsen in the summertime I'm sure

Thank you for explaining the evolution of the onsen culture in the former video, and showing us in this one a rare traditional staying. It was fascinating

Thank you for introducing this Toji Life with us, thats really interesting. The outdoor baths look so amazing, and it must be wonderful in winter, with the snow. The body in the hot bath, and the head in the fresh winter air. I think I would stay 2 nights, and on one night cook, and on the other night, eat a cooked meal in the dining hall. My only "problem" with this inn, is not having a toilet in the room.

People in Japan must work at having excellent posture, as traditional accommodation has no chairs or place to rest your back! Shared bathroom makes sense because baths are shared. I would like to stay here as a Canadian but maybe in spring or autumn ☺️

I love this video! It shows more of a cultural side of onsen, away from the glamour and slick convenience of most tourist onsen. I feel like this could be a great getaway for a 2-week stay. Just take a bus and train into town for groceries every 3 or 4 days, and otherwise just relax. Also maybe a great way to counteract feelings of loneliness, as it's a more socially-open and less exclusive sort of stay. (I'd love to sit and just chat with someone over slow-cooking dinner.)

I really enjoyed this video. It was very different from the luxury accommodation usually shown and I think this type of accommodation would be wonderful to experience. I'm not sure if anyone else got the impression the Onsen was a bit spooky, but I definitely got that vibe. I'm not sure how spooky will translate in the Japanese language but, in the English language, it is a special vibe you get from ancient, historic or even tragic locations. Thank you for a wonderful, thought provoking video. Arigato Gozaimasu

When you started cooking, I wondered what dish you were going to make. They were the same ingredients as for Dutch 'hutspot'. Now I might try it Japanese style.
@its_time_to_travelКүн бұрын
I looked up 'hutspot' and it really does look similar! In the Netherlands, do you mash the potatoes?
@fordiga7120 сағат бұрын
@@its_time_to_travel Yes, both potatoes and carrots are mashed with some milk. It is seasoned with salt, pepper and nutmeg. I had no idea there was a wikipage for 'hutspot' 😊.

Of all onsen review videos on youtube, your's is by far the best. Very informative even without the narration. Question, after having watched a number of your videos. Are most onsens, even remote ones friendly and accepting of non-Japanese speakers? I ask because a lot of the ryokans tend to be very personal in their service - from the introduction and welcome to explaining meals, etc. Thank you!
@its_time_to_travelКүн бұрын
If remote onsens are developed as tourist destinations (like Ginzan Onsen or Lake Toya Onsen), they often have staff who can assist in English. If there’s an English reservation page, it’s usually a good sign that they can accommodate non-Japanese speakers. To be sure, you can mention your preference for English assistance when making a reservation☺️ Even if English support is limited, many ryokans try their best to accommodate non-Japanese speakers using tools like translation apps. Thank you!

This looks amazing! Especially the outdoor bath, and in the winter. Do they allow people with tattoos to use the bath?

I’ve been reading up on that. I think you have to see which places allow tattooed people to enjoy.

I wouldn't be able to immerse well into the Toji life, tbh. I'm not big on sharing everything with strangers. Here in Canada, sharing a house with strangers is already a pain in the heiny. It's better to live with your family, really.
@СветланаРовных-ю4ъКүн бұрын
а, почему хозяева гостинец не используют природную горячую воду источников для обогрева здания?
1:49 definitely you must know Japanese to read the timetable and the bus panel ! Or to have with you someone that know the language or use Google of other translator app !
