The Floor wax you are referring to is not a wax but a type of acrylic sealant used to coat floor surfaces to protect them from damage by creating a layer to harden the surface from wear and dirt. It was called Pledge Future Floor Wax but its call Revive Floorcare now. But its great over any type of paint acrylic to lacquer to enamel. It don't react with the paint. Also good for protecting clear parts from scratch and super glue frosting for the glue casing a frosted look to them will also help to fill scratches and clear up scratched clear parts. It can be diluted with alcohol and ammonia (Windex will work for cleaning airbrushes)And most times it needs no thinning. It works well for chipping if you place a layer of the revive over each layer, then use a diluted Windex and your tool of choice for the effect.. It also seals decals to smooth the edges and level the paint surface with the decal then another layer to seals the decal. The last point was Price where are you gonna find a better semi gloss clear coat for less than 10 and it be enough to last a year or more ...nowhere!

Pro tip from 40K land use Molotow Liquid Chrome. It's made for a marker but you can buy 30ml refill on amazon you can squeeze right into your airbrush. Can thin with iso too. Since it is made for markers it is much more forgiving as well.

The floor polish you refer to is pledge revive it floor gloss. Lots of people use it to increase clarity on clear parts and windows as well as a gloss coat. The main benefits are no thinning is necessary, it doesn't yellow like most model clearcoats, you get a lot for a few dollars, and it has a pleasant smell. I prefer gunze gx100 and color leveling thinner, but the floor polish works in a pinch.

Hi 'Gunpla' (I guess... 😊) Been airbrushing for 5 years now, 1st one I airbrushed was the MG Destiny Full Burst or someting like that. The one with the wing effect parts and the 2 mechie chrome plated runners. I stripped the chrome using thick bleach. Worked excellent btw. Could not stand the nubs on the knees for example. So 5 years ago I started the journey you are taking now. At that time I thought the best product was Alclad. It is a hoaks that stuf. One needs to put on a very thin layer. This so the black underneath it shows through. That is way when you watch your video at the 9.20 min mark, you can clearly see how dark they really are. From the right angle our eyes get tricked. Also using their Aqua glos klear (what's up with the spelling😂 (too thin, runs like the day after burrito day😆)) or Pledge /Johnson Future Gloss brongs problems when wanting to do a candy effect as that stuff is really weak.... I've also tried chrome powder, the name slips my mind (got glucome medicine😉), but there is an Austin Martin in Chrome on the cartboard box and some green I believe it was. I guess it acts the same way as your expencive powder, I believe it is from the UK. They recommend a second layer of the powder after buffing the first for a better effect. Maybe it helps for your powder too...? Bit what I teally came here for is tellin you that you need to give Molotow a go. Damn, I have to copyright that: Give Molotow a go!😊 Dilute the stuff with Mr Leveling Thinner (That Gaya stuff might be a sort of simular product with a retarding agent in it), can't tell you the ratio as I eyeball it bit be sure to mix it outside the airbrush. Especially if your nozzle is of the longer type as mine by Wave. It might not mix correct as the paint wants to fall through the tinner in the cup, leaving you with un-thinned paint in the nozzle making the brush sputter. Them guys with nasty results did not thin it correctly. A fellow KZbinr which I highly respect did some tests with the Molotow, handpainting and airbrushing. The latter not having good results, admittingly that he didn't dilute it. I did and it looks the best from all the products I have used. Painted a white plastic spoon with it, no gloss black (enamel) undercoat, just sprayed on. Two to three coats, the firt being the thacky one, the other two rather thick, keeping the whole surface wet. If one spot dries and gets overspray from the next stroke you'll have to go over that spot again. As soon as you spray it on it looks great! No need for buffing. Fooled everyone in thinking it was a metal spoon. There is only one small downside... It only takes an enamel (!!!!!!!!) clear coat and that will dull it down in tone, not in sheen (Not the Charlie or Martin one and surley not Emelio😊). It is wel worth the money. I diluted some in a old Alclad Chrome bottle and still have enough in the refill pen for 1.5 bottles more, so in comparisson it's not that expencive (maybe that's only if you have to import the Alclad, no idea how much a bottle goes for in the States). If I may suggest looking for: the Mokonaman also on KZbin? His name is Alan and has some exellent video's about airbrushing, rather in depth paint subjects, like type of paint, what they are made of, how to dilute and much more. For some vids you have to do a little digging as they are rather old (they where a few moons old when I watched them 5 years ago) but are very woth it! I hope this helps you and others out in their quest for a mirror chrome! P.s., I keep saying dilute and not thin. Nor using only the word 'thinner', but clearly say enamel thinner or acrilic thinner. In the past I watched a lot o Gunpla TV and they showed the panel line wash with enamels. They keps saying thinner and over here (NL) that means cellulose based thinner (I know😔) and needles to say I was happy I tried that on a old fodder kit... Try explaining that to an old timer in modeling without a huge laugh😅 Happy building!

One of my personal favorite options are from the Molotow chrome paint marker line. They provide a nearly perfect mirror chrome effect right out of the gate, plus the chrome ink can be hand painted (with a paint brush or straight from the marker tip) instead of having to rely on an airbrush - however, that hasn't stopped some people from using the ink through an airbrush anyways
@066motocross
@066motocross 3 жыл бұрын
2K clear can actually be thinned and sprayed from an airbrush. It would actually be a 3K process. But your still correct about most people not going this route because when they have to go to an autobody supply store and pay around $150 for the clear, the activator, and reducer to thin it enough to airbrush they will probably buy floor wax. I am fortunate enough to have access to real car clear and I haven't tried it on chrome I can tell you how awesome it looks over real car paint. I get my paint mixed at an autobody paint store and I have them mix me 4 oz. of an actual color from the year and make of the model using paint color chip books

Did the same test. Between Alclad, Gaia, Spaz and a couple different ones from Mr. Color. Came to the same conclusion, Alclad Gloss Black base + Alclad Chrome wins. Spaz Stix is a close second. Gaia Metal Masters Thinner is amazing. Mainly only used for other Gaia or Mr. Color laquers that need to be thinned.

Alclad gloss black is an enamel. The modelling community concludes that roughly 50% of all gloss black batches made by them will NEVER cure. Flawed batches. Other products you could review: Uschi Models also has a chrome powder. It might have a more competitive price, depends where you live i guess. The floor shine that people use is called Future floor polish, and i advise to NEVER USE IT. Because inconsistent results. Sometimes it will crack, looking like a dried riverbed. The best gloss ive seen used is from GSI Creos (aka Mr hobby, Mr Color, Gunze Sanyo) and its called Mr Color Super Clear. For some reason they have "Super clear III" and "Super clear II UV Cut" etc. Its a lacquer, so stinky to spray like alclad.
@ItsAGunpla
@ItsAGunpla 5 жыл бұрын
That makes perfect sense! I have found the black gloss by alcolad to be a real pain in the dick! Uschi is that the german powder? Good thing I've never used the future polish. the super clear III flat is my favorite top coat.
@tradfave9474
@tradfave9474 5 жыл бұрын
Yea its false labelling. A company called "alclad lacquers" sells an enamel that isnt labelled as such. You could probably replace it with a cheaper gloss black enamel thats better quality from even Testors, since enamels are their bread and butter. alclad use an enamel because of the long drying time working better for gloss finishes. Uschi is swiss i think? Its not a company, its one guy. He normally makes stuff specific to WW1 biplanes. Very fussy about his metal finishes. Very active on facebook and very community focused. You COULD contact him and MAYBE he could throw you some products to review, especially since the gundam market has almost zero overlap with the market he normally caters to so thats a whole new bunch of potential customers. Even with 10k subs, thats a lot of people compared to other modelling communities so you've got some clout. Lastly, all the best metallic finishes involve putting actual metal on plastic, whether its from an airbrush, powders or adhesive metal foil. Dont laugh at that last one. its been done, and done well for decades now and for aluminium at least its probably the most convincing, but waaay too much work. This is also the reason why metallics look like shit when you spray clearcoats over them, because they then look like metal with a clearcoat over it.

I like Molotow, it's easy to spray with no base required. However, the dry time is super long before you can spray a high gloss clear over it. Also it is expensive, but can be thinned with lacquer thinner. The technique is to spray to cover all at once, light coats don't get good results for some reason.

hi, i got the c-1 metalizer, it works just like the powder you are showing, first, DO NOT USE A DREMEL BUFFER WITH THAT. i tried a rotary buffer with the c-1 and it burned it and ruined the whole thing. you want the cotton pads or q-tips and buff it by hand. you have to buff the powder and it will mirror more. i did c-1 metalizer on my grimore red berret model. and the crome was amazing untill i clear coated it with flat paint. lesson learned, but it was a mistake that made my model look amazing. anyways thats my bit on the powder. I'm extremely disappointed with Spaz Stix, I've seen many videos of it and multiple how to before I purchased it and I think I got a really bad batch because I did everything as directed with both the black backer and the chrome itself and I always got a brushed aluminum look instead of chrome. Then I learned that the main ingredient to a good chrome doesn't come from the chrome paint itself but the black back which is suppose to be a gloss finish. And the backer I had was no where near gloss, more of a satin.

There are literally hundreds of options for clears, even without going to 2k. A 1k 3m spray can clear is better than most 2k clears for models.

Thought on Vallejo paints? I paint a lot of GW models and looking to get into Gunpla and was wondering if those colors are ok?

Does it matter what black base you use? I've seen some black bases with a reflective finish.

Did you use anything specific to get that really good gloss black? If anyone else has suggestions to get a perfect gloss black I'm all ears. Thanks in advance

I was wondering about Alclad paints before, but wasn't sure if those paints aren't too strong for plastic. Would it be fine to use Tamiya Enamel as a base for them?

@itsagunpla you need to try AK extreme metals. About 8 dollars for a large bottle, buffable, very forgiving and easy to use. Check out the video on youtube.
