In this episode, I start preparing the body to be separated from the chassis, as well as removing the spark plugs to check if I can manually crank the engine.

Interesting video, it's abit confusing that it's got flood damage, but no water in the engine? so maybe the car had a previous engine issue and was parked up somewhere and unfortunately ended up in a flood. One of the biggest problems with these engines are PCV valve failure, this sends engine oil to the air filters, if unchecked this will cause oil starvation and the two rear cylinders will run dry and get damaged, the pistons/con rods get detached so this could cause your sparkplug damage. Get a camera down there to have a look. Looks like you've got a massive job on your hands.

I agree Paul, it’s all very strange and doesn’t quite add up. A suggestion I’ve heard from a couple of people is it could have been an insurance fraud - engine broke and seized then owner rolled it into some water and claimed a payout on insurance… food for thought?!

After being pointed to GB9's channel by Alex, I was slightly surprised to realise the relatively high number of Aston-specific (quite often including owners wrenching on them) channels that there are on KZbin! We have - (Rebuilding, working on and living with Astons) GB9 Alex Baldwin Bamford Rose Matt Armstrong Supercar Tribe and with quite a lot of Aston ownership content, Dadcars. Please add your own Aston-related favourites to this comment.

I also think it's worth investing in a battery powered wrench for your socket set as you'll otherwise be spending countless hours wrenching away by hand over the course of this, and other builds! !

Appreciate that Dan, thank you so much. There's a really good Aston community on KZbin and I've been overwhelmed with the amount of people reaching out to help - my Instagram inbox has never been so busy, haha! You located near to Surrey?

I'd recommend that you either lower the ramp first, or you get a stand for your oil/water drain pans... THEN you won't need to keep mopping up spilt fluids! It is pretty daft to let them drain from 6 foot up in the air! That's just asking for trouble!

Yep agreed, the amount of coolant caught me off guard. Every day’s a school day!

Hi Alex, had a look at gb9 garage after you mentioned it. Hopefully it gave you confidence by filling in gaps in the workshop manual and avoiding a couple of pitfalls (e.g. Gary damaging his headlights in the separation step). btw. db9 seats go into a learn/ calibration mode when you disconnect the battery which means you can only move them forward as the first step of that learn mode. Aston1936 has procedure for completing learn mode so you can then move the seats back - a little late advice 4 ur 2 least favourite jobs I know - but will be useful to know later of course. Power windows & 'misfire correction factoring' do the same - again aston1936 website has a guide. Dying to see the rest of the process unfold - keep up the great work and the great videos. Andrew

Thanks Andrew - that’s really good to know about the seats! I thought it might have been an electrical issue from the flood. My 2 least favourite jobs should be a bit easier when putting it all back together at least 😂 Cheers for the kind words too!

I suspect you've got an oval cylinder (piston slap) that ended up seizing the piston on that passenger side with the damaged spark plug. Its a known DB9 issue where the rear of the block isn't cooled properly. Good luck anyway!

Thanks man! Yeah I got the borescope down there today and sure enough, piston is nowhere to be seen 👀

You should first try to spin the engine manually

I do try manually do it right at the end of the video! I’ve also since got a borescope down there and it’s definitely seized - you’ll see why next vid! Thanks for watching 💪🏼

Have you checked on KZbin that it doesn't appear in any videos of well known fords (and I don't mean the former owner of Aston Martin)? 🤔

I haven’t tbh - there’s no water in the engine. I think it’s just seized and been pushed into water for an insurance job!

I dint believe the engine is seized it can be a faulty starter or something in the start circuit
