Hey Alex, you have yourself a new sub. Now after watching this video on your DB9 (what a worthy car to get back on the road) and this being my first comment and really not wanting to offend. With the expensive cars you have chosen to work on worth thousands, I’m wondering why on earth you have not got 1 a decent jump pack 2 a borescope 3 a huge breaker bar All these basic tools would help you greatly. You have mentioned that you found no oil coming out of the sump and if there was water in your engine you would have seen it exiting before the oil. I do hope that you check again for the engine to be totally ceased before going through the trouble of yanking it out. Good luck and will watch all of your other videos too. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Hey Robert, thanks for the kind words! Thankfully I’ve now finished the project and you’ll see I do pick up another jump pack and borescope during the rebuild series! I should get a breaker bar as well though, good idea. I did get the borescope down in the next episode and it was quite the sight 😂 appreciate it!

The 'plastic' on the wheels is just the powdercoat lacquer. Rattle canning an Aston makes me sad. That front end needs a pro job and a blend with proper paint. The clear you get in rattle cans is invariably of poor quality and does not stand up to weathering. Well done on the project though.

Looking at the water marks and front end scuffs my guess would be it was parked in a large garage which flooded with some current. The weight of the engine would have submerged the front end whilst the back end floated. The scuffing could then occur as the water pushed the semi-floating car around.
@itsalexbaldwin

Yeah I initially thought something similar until I looked inside the engine later on in the rebuild process; I now think it’s an insurance job!

They’re Diamond Cut, basically the alloy wheel is lacquered straight onto the aluminium. Pretty sure of that, so, you can take them to a wheel specialist who does that, or pick a colour you like, and get them powder coated.
@seanblee
@seanblee 15 күн бұрын
Yep, diamond cut and lacquered, then a small chip or something has let water get behind the lacquer and start lifting it - commonly known as white worm

@itsalexbaldwin
@itsalexbaldwin 27 күн бұрын
Thanks man! It’s an interesting query - I overtook so many pricey TT bikes, I’m not sure the bikes make much of a difference at amateur level! I have thought about renting a bike for one of my next events, can get something that would otherwise be out of my price range and not have the stress of reassembly!

Alex. Firstly may I say as a father myself your dad would be beaming with pride to see what you have achieved in such a short time. I also had a loss. I lost my 30 year old daughter to bowel cancer on 26/3/2020 and four years is nowhere near enough time to get over an incredible loss like we have. When you put the pictures up of you and your dad and your dad holding the dog I actually cried because I know the pain you have felt. Both of my parents have passed and I was closest to my mum but I cracked up when my dad passed and I’ve never known why. I really do wish I was fit enough to be able to do something like that alongside you ❤️ I had a magnet fishing collaboration April 2023 and I managed with raffles and donations from amazing people we achieved £4K. I will speak for your dad and say I am amazingly proud of you fella ❤

Ah gosh, Roger, I am sorry to hear that. 30 is frightfully young, I turn 30 in November. Cancer takes far too many people before their time! My Dad really was my best friend and doing these kinds of fundraising challenges in his memory just feels... right! Well done on your fundraising efforts as well, £4k is a huge amount!

When you apply the handbrake on a db9, dont touch the button. Just pull the leaver up at let it go. The light on the dash will tell you the handbrake is on. With the power of a V12 you could happily drive with the brake on and no realise. To release, pull up the handbrake and once at the top of its travel, press the button and put the leaver back down. The light will go off and the brake will have released.

As a DB9 owner I can assure you of one thing, when you change all your plugs, change all your coil packs, because the time and effort + parts and cost to change one coil pack, its cheaper in the long run to change them all. Great job BTW of being to put that engine back together.

What an amazing job Alex. It not only sounds good but looks good. And to think you knew nothing about cars and you’ve put a 6L V12 in an Aston mate I mean wow. I’ve repaired hundreds of cars in the last 39 years and I would question if I could do that or not. You’re amazing Alex. Good luck at the Iron Man buddy. I’m 💯 certain your dad would be immensely proud of you ❤️

Thanks Roger! Who knows, now I’ve done it - it might encourage many others like yourself to take on such a challenge! It definitely does need a lift, that’s the only drawback but if you specialised in Aston engine swaps, it could definitely be lucrative once you’ve done one and know what you’re doing! Ironman went well thank you! Hopefully a video in next 1-2 weeks from the trip. And thank you for the comment about my Dad, I like to think he’d have a big smile on his face ☺️
