I swear I have ptsd from my first thyla attack... yeah... was on a really good argy too but forgot it was on passive, I had just tamed a bear (cryo'd) and was on my way back to base, Ieven ran out of ammo. All I had was a purple level pickaxe... luckily I got loose and was able to remount and fly away with a whopping 20 hp left. It was only lvl 16. I guess I got too close to a tree. But, lesson 1 of Ark. If it scares you, tame it. I suffer from anxiety and have a really progressive therapist who thinks videogames can be a great tool for mental health exercises. I had a raptor pack in the redwoods and everything seemed to be going well until I ran into thylas. The first one was no big deal, but then 2 more showed up and actually, I’m gonna avoid the redwoods till I have something bigger.

Redwoods is no big deal to me, all I need to do is go to Ark extinction, then summon a tamed level 15000 Ice Titan, then upload my ice titan to The Island

Some other creatures can cause them to jump off the trees before you even reach the thylacoleo so if you know your safe scan the ground too that's where I found my first 145 thyla on the island after hours of searching

i was out doing multiple corpse runs cause of this lvl 44 thylo, after killing him there was a 108 just a few trees away. i figured out u can take an argy and grab them off the tree from above but u gotta be good without beign seen.

lol you can absolutely just stand on a rock that it’s not able to scale. Thats how I got my first one super low level and for some reason they seem to keep aggro while you tranq them out even tho everything else runs for the most part. If your game allows flyer carry you can pick up wild ones with the argy. I do have it enabled but I was so used to playing on servers so yeah you can just land on a tall enough rock and you’re good, it doesn’t even have to be high just make sure you can’t run up it. Once you have 1 Thyla you can shoot them down while riding your first one you got tamed. & of course you could build a trap but if you come across one in your travels and impulsively want to tame, I just the same rocks that are all over the area where they spawn. Small to medium size rocks are best , to test it just try and run up the rock on foot, try to jump and everything if you can’t scale it than more or less nothing else should, with the exception of when you get to the bigger Dino’s like paracer rex bro to etc.

1 more reason to get a power house dino spino/rex is that you can use it as a punching bag for the thyla while you tame it that's how i almost tamed an allo but I forgot to put my rex on passive....

I’ve never made the mistake of going high in the redwoods. One microraptor tried to stun but my argy was too quick. I haven’t died to anything horrible and I’m pretty experienced.
