Hi. Always a cool Courtney reaction. I never cease to be amazed at what Courtney can do. A voice that can rock a stage one minute and then come back and rip your heart out with the rawness and intensity that she puts into a gritty ballad like this. Unmatched vocal power, control and versatility. Music is always a sensory experience, but when Courtney sings, it's as much of a visual experience as it is an audio one. It's like a wave of feeling and emotion that washes over you. I don't know of any other artiest that can create that kind of effect in her listeners, like Courtney can. Also, and I experienced this first hand when I saw her live at Carnegie Hall. Courtney is the greatest artist and vocalist I've ever heard, but when she's singing live, she somehow manages to take that greatness up another couple of levels. No one else like her in music, and it's always a privilege, and pure joy, to be able to see and hear her perform.

Courtney up'd this times 2. I love the mix, the the piano sound is so much more alive and real. I think the original didn't use an actual piano. More electric keyboards. And her pianist harmonies so subtle along with the rare electric guitar just at the right places with that ever so slight tremolo effect is perfect. I think her full group is going to be a perfect match for each other.

Nice reaction, Emotion! She's mentioned a lot of old-school inspirations in the past, but some of the women she's listed most consistently are Janis Joplin, Tina Turner and Aretha Franklin. I really liked both the original and the live versions, but I'm partial to the live cause she really turns is up a notch in the last third of the song, more than in the original, and, as you pointed out, uses her gritty, raspy rock'ish voice which always gives me shivers!

thanks for reminding me of the inspirations shes had because i could not remember the names in the moment

This is the only song that I questioned of Courtney's. Originally, I was not a big fan of it, but the more I hear it Courtney's voices seems to take over and the accompaniment is actually subdued but very effective.

I am a metalhead, yet Courtney's voice blasts through my metal wall. She's a top 5 female vocalist of all-time for me. If someone else was singing this song I probably wouldn't even listen to it. The Courtney sauce is real.

yeah it would not hit the same if somebody else sung this

The raw emotion on display is indescribable. I truly wish more modern performers would allow themselves to be this vulnerable, so that it can emote through the music, and not just be going through the process of singing, and sound soulless and bland.

So good! I do want Ms. Courtney and her new band members to always remain HEALTHILY self-skeptical, a tad introspective about their own performance. That's how STELLAR careers progress. And it's what she's done, mostly healthily, since the earliest performances I've found. I think she learned a lot as she progressed through The Voice Kids UK in 2017 (season 1, with coach Danny Jones). Ditto for AGT in 2018. But both experiences were heavily marred by all the internet trolls, local/regional/national bullies in person, and all the disappointments embedded in each of those extended experiences. Since then, she's been even more on fire in her development of her skills. I'm impressed. Again. There is always room for improvement. OK, going out on a limb here, we'll see how bad the fall may be if I get it wrong. She reminds me HEAVILY of Tina Turner, even more of Freddie Mercury, and, don't laugh, of Keith Urban (though she didn't grow up completely focused on guitar like Keith). How? ENERGY. PASSION. MOVING TO THE MUSIC. Keith is truly an outlier, his guitar, his voice, and his body moving to the music are EACH and ALL his instruments. With Tina, Freddie, and Courtney, I swear _their body is their instrument_. It's why people want to both listen and WATCH Ms. Courtney rock out. The movement to the music is a PART, an integral part, to the vocal performance. Even here, her SUBDUED movements are an essential part to connecting and communicating with her audience. I think all 4 of them are underneath it all frustrated 'theater kids' like Voiceplay members. I think that's also why I always see Ms. Courtney, Ms. Daneliya Tuleshova, and Ms. Angelina Jordan together, as, when they're distracted and totally into the music, it's a whole body experience for each of them. But it's far more pronounced with Ms. Courtney. Her body (including vocal tract) _IS_ her instrument. I seriously, truly, wish that Keith Urban could and would get a week with these three together (COURTZ, DANELIYA, and Ms. Angelina Jordan). Better yet, with his wife, Nicole Kidman, along to help mentor three beautiful young rising female superstars, with a hint of theater in their blood, in a challenging male-dominated music industry. Rising SUPERSTAR summercamp? Unfortunately I don't have the millions, or connections, it would take to make that happen. A discussion of proper security pros and how to hire them would also be a DAMNED GOOD idea.

Thank you for this! I loved this version right away and your wonderful reaction helped me appreciate it even more. I think these 2 musicians and at least 3 more who were at this session in London are going to tour with Courtney. Hopefully videos with the rest of the band will be out soon, but I'm excited already!

@@itsemotion-o That's a good question. She's always said the album comes first and I thought that would be around New Year, but now it seems 3 or 4 singles, which I think were scheduled for this year, will be after New Year, pushing the album back, Courtney only knows how long. However I'm not sure that means touring gets pushed back much. As you see, they're rehearsing now and it's a song she released about a year and a half ago. They should have enough material to start playing live before the album comes out, but I really don't know.

The sound in the background is the scraping sound of the guitar. Not something I really liked. I also thought the piano was too loud. Like the song. I am not completely satisfied with the sound. But there is nothing wrong with Courtz's voice, maybe she should have held back a little in the high notes. She doesn't have to push every time. I would like to hear this version more softly. But all this is my opinion.
