I looked for a good intro to After Effects for a while, I tried many, I'll admit I came to this one reluctantly (who wants a 11 hour class?)... but I knew the minute it started I knew this was the one I wanted. You do a phenomenal job, break things apart in a way that makes lots of sense, you don't digress, don't use technical terms you haven't explained. Honestly, this is extraordinary and it stands miles ahead of everything else I've seen. And you offer it for free! Honestly, Jack, you're a saint and a fucking brilliant guy. And seem fun, serious without taking yourself too seriously. Sorry it's a long comment, but after listening to you for 12 hours, the least I could do was to write a couple sentences to say how much I appreciate what you do and to thank you.

Good guide on people starting with after effects. I want to add quite a lot of things though. (you need a 100 hours to actually explain after effects, or more...) Center your layer anchor point with Layer > Transform > Center anchor point in layer (shortcut: Ctrl + Alt + Home) Set your start timecode to completely 0 by just typing a single 0, you can also just type 5:00 and it will be 5 seconds, same applies for the length. Create your own text animations with animators and range selectors. Set the shape (open advanced) to ramp up or down and animate the offset. This will overlap the current animation over multiple characters. You can add multiple properties to this range selector. For example the scale, opacity and position can all animate as they come in range. Use a loop expression to repeat existing keyframes. Alt-click the stopwatch of the property you want to loop and type: loopOut('') or loopIn('') (loop before or after the keyframes) then type one of these beteween the quotes. Cycle (default, start to end then repeat), Pingpong (start to end, end to start), Continue (takes current velocity and adds it over time), Offset (Add values on top of each other, example: 100 > 200 > 190 > (starts the loop) 290 > 280.) I prefer using masks and a stroke effect to create a write on effect. You just use paths as masks and animate from 0% to 100%. It is much easier to edit as there are not so many confusing keyframes. Use Ctrl + Alt + C to copy with property links. This way all properties of the effect are linked to the original and you only have to change 1 to change it all. You could also apply the effect to the composition to apply it to everything Graph Editor: To make more complicated animations, you need the graph editor. You can use the graph editor for any animated object to get a visual representation for the animation over time. You can change the handles on the anchor points to create different a ease in and out. The value graph is the most intuitive and it displays the value over time, you also have the speed graph which displays speed over time. Sometimes you cant use the value graph since a property like a path for example doesn't have a numeric value. When masking it's very useful to set the mask mode to none so you can see everything You can create a mask on a shape layer either by just right clicking the layer > new > mask. Or if you want to use a shape or the pen tool you can toggle creating shapes to creating masks by clicking on the checkerboard mask next to the star shape to the right of the toolbar. Then just trim the comp If your footage is shaky, the effect "warp stabilizer" does a ridiculously good job at stabilizing it and automatically resizes your footage. I didn't expect this comment to be so long lmao, and i've just kept on adding if i realized i forgot something.

Holy, what an awesome course! Thank you so much for posting this out, it's almost (2023) and it's still very valuable, some of the resources were missing but nothing to serious, providing you replace them with other footage. Overall an amazing experience, covering all the essentials and not digging us through a rabbit hole, but instead giving us what's useful and going straight to how to use it, Tysm Jack! hope your channel regains the traction

Hey Jack I am on 2:16:24 and I noticed you move the anchor point frequently, it has been 2 years already and I am assuming that you have already picked this up but just incase, if you highlight a layer and the layers anchor point isnt in the centre then you can press CTRL+ALT+HOME on your keyboard to snap the anchor point to the centre. Loving the video so far

Would consider yourself an independent experienced after effects editor now?
@Flaco_3dit2 жыл бұрын
@@towkiie It depends on what do you mean by indipendent experienced. I started using and watching tutorials of Adobe premiere pro and after effects with less then 0 knowledge, after this tutorial of Adobe after effects I can easily say I am able to do the 90% of all I need for my necessities (in my case for my KZbin baking channel). So, if you ask me to do something more difficult, probably I should study and try more.

@@Flaco_3dit that great, I was asking if you are able to operate around after effects without tutorials.
@Flaco_3dit2 жыл бұрын
@@towkiie oh nono, absolutely not. Even if I started using Adobe premiere pro, something like, 6 months before I used for the first time AE and even if the layout and the concept of the software is similar, I would never have been able.

10 minutes into video and I'm ready to make a comment.... I've been searching for help with After Effects and I've found a lot on KZbin, however every video I've watched the instructor taught as if everyone knew the simple things. In the first few minutes of your lesson, I learned several things that I have been trying to figure out. For example... How to play the video?... Press the space bar! All the other videos I've watched and not one person mentioned the space bar? One other thing... you have a cursor large enough to see, along with moving slower this is a game changer! Thanks Jack!
