Hi from the UK. Their genre is "Sleep Token " no other band like them. Check out Ascensionism its fire. Vessel is the singer, guitarist, bassist, keyboardist, song writer. The only other member on the albums is ii who is the drummer.

HAHA! Your face when the guitar kicked in was priceless. These guys are a genre unto themselves. I like to think of them as a canvas made of metal that’s painted with all of their various musical influences. Along with metal, there’s a strong blues and R&B element to them, but you’ll also hear electronic, hip hop, funk, soul, and gospel in their music, among many others. Progressive music in general is music that doesn’t follow a traditional song structure. It’s more of a format than a genre. So, a traditional song structure would be Intro > Verse 1 > Chorus > Verse 2 > Chorus > Bridge > Chorus > Outro, for example. Granite is written with a traditional structure, but Ascensionism is progressive and I believe you listened to that the other day. In Ascensionism, you’ll notice that there’s no chorus at all. It’s basically three different verses with a bunch of interludes and breakdowns. Also, man, don’t let people get you down about pausing. Do your channel the way you want to. If people want to listen to the song without interruption, then they can go do that but a lot of us watch reactions for the analysis or how something made you feel or whatever else is on a reactor’s mind. I used to be shy as a kid, too, and now I can’t shut up (as you can probably tell). Anyway, pause as much as you like!

They have 3 full albums and some EPs. Somewhere around 31 songs if memory serves me. Not a single song sounds like another. Every one is completely unique and a sound unto itself. Some lyrics purposely make their presence known in other songs and true fan that have done their digging know where the call backs are and where the pre-Sleep call backs are as well. They are by FAR the most interesting band from a lore perspective. Trying to figure out Vessel's past based off of all of the songs he has created is a wild journey. His family is even more interesting. Not gonna get any spoilers from me though. Its not like its hard to find out who he is now. They have all but said it publically. Still once you know who Vessel is their songs get even more interesting. There is the addition of the god or goddess named Sleep. You may have noticed people in the comment section saying 'Worship'. Their band name is said to be taken from their songs which they call Tokens of their worship to Sleep and thus a Sleep Token. Their songs are their worship. After listening to every song Vessel has had a part in I personally think the whole Sleep angle is a brilliant gimmick and this is really all about the girl he was/is infatuated with. Its like a cathartic way of dealing with his obsession and he did it with her blessing. There is too much to type in to a comment section. Just enjoy their music and dive deep in to them if you want to grow closer to the soul of who they are.

I found them just a few months ago. Been through everything they put out on Spotify. Are you saying the answer to who Vessel is, is in the music itself? I've been intrigued with all the mystery surrounding him, the lore, the coordinates they leave on their albums and have watched a few videos about them, but now with you mentioning this and Vessels family, I'm even more intrigued! I appreciate you keeping the secret, but just want to know if I'm on the right track just by listening to the music. Thanks in advance.

They are an anonymous band. They try to keep their identities hidden. The singer goes by Vessel. He writes the lyrics and the music for every song. Their drummer goes by II. The singer and drummer are the only two permanent members of the band.

Vessel and II (two) are the only actual band members, Vessel does everything except drums which II does. III and IV just come for live shows playing guitar and bass. They stay anonymous and let the music be their face. As for genre, they really fit the meme, "What genre is Sleep Token? Yes" I think the main reason they mostly get classified as metal is that metal is probably their most consistent sound. It's not necessarily in every song but there's a touch of it in most of them and more than a touch in several.

So besides the background singers, Vessel does all the vocals and instruments (except for the drums) in the studio. Wikipedia got it right tho, Sleep Token is characterized as their own genre, only because they use elements of so many other genres that it meshed into something that Sleep Token has molded into their own genre or sound. It was Divine intervention that you found Sleep Token....they are so good and like to keep you guessing. Progressive metal is basically metal that has a lot of changes in meter, pattern, or instrumentation. Post-metal is metal influenced by "softer" genres and that doesn't necessarily use a standard verse-chorus structure.

There isn't really a single genre that you can use to define them. People use progressive metal a lot of the time when a band blends a lot of genres into metal, but they don't really do some of the other typical things you'd see from progressive metal like using weird time signatures and they have plenty of songs that are more pop/r&b than metal. I don't think there will ever be a satisfying answer to what genre they are - just take them for what they are.
