A good introduction for people new to 3D printing. Just a couple of comments: 1. Shell thickness - in Cura 5 (and other slicers using Arachne engine), it is possible to print walls which are narrower or wider than the nozzle size. But that's for more advanced users. 2. Tree supports can actually use more filament than normal supports; it depends on the model. 3. Saving files - it's good practice (particularly for projects with multiple prints) to include estimated time and filament usage in the file name as it helps with organising your printing schedule, eg Gecko_4h06m_172g

Ok, so here's my breakdown, first of all New subscriber.. started using my first 3d printer machine ( snapmaker J1 ) I had jumped the gun by DL Prusa slicer before realizing the J1 comes with Cad software names Luban, they say it's made by Cura? Which lucky I found your video on Cura 101 . My 9 and 10 year Olds and I currently use Tinker Cad and then Save to comp, then open our saved files with the LUBAN to make Gcode.. I know there must be an easier way? Maybe I should just learn all the different slicers out there to be better at all of this new hobby. Trying to still figure out how to duplicate 3d model part so I don't need to keep measuring, and how do you cut the top off of a Pyramid or a cones shape? anyways thank you and I will try to watch and learn from all your video.. So the way your doing it is the way you do it. You make your model export the model. Import into the slicer then slice the model export the gcode then send to a printer. That’s how everyone does it. I’ve been 3D printing since 2021, I have 4 different printers, I got some z seam issues. I’ve worked it out of my prints before, but since I upgraded to CURA 5.4 the z seam is haunting me yet again, now there are even more settings and none of them look as my old gcode, what gives?

Any advance on what to do when Anycubic Kobra printer has poor adhesion? I’ve noticed the filament is not bonding fully as its layered. It’s my third print and was experimenting with a taller print. Supports were also to thick and ended up being hard to remove. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

I’ve heard a lot people having issues with that printer for some reason. Honestly debating buying one to help people. Sorry if I missed you saying this but how do I determine the physical size of the object I am printing? For example, I am printing a skeleton hand. I want to make sure it is a normal size hand. Not too small or not too big.

Cura works well on Linux too btw 👍😊. My old laptop struggled with Windows 10, so I threw out windows and installed Linux Mint almost a year ago. Installing Cura was easy, and I have been using Cura For Linux almost a year now.

Hi MeaDMaDe.... I'm going to attempt to slice the TMNT Leonardo model (I'm going to try your dry-brushing guide on it). How would something complicated like the body.stl be sliced/supported in Cura for FDM printing? What would be the best orientation?

If your talking about the one I did from LA Figures that is intended to be printed in resin not fdm. You could do it in fdm but you would probably have to scale it up quite a bit for it to print in fdm.

HELP!!! I just downloaded Cura software - HOWEVER, when I go to add a printer the options are different to your screen - 10:58min mark (& everyone else I watched). I only have the option to click Ultimaker or MakerBot. The page looks exactly the same, but differntly writing on second optional choice box. There is no option for non-ultimaker printer. It's SOOOO frustrating. Each one I need a 6 digit code and no option to include the printer I have!!! Anyone suggest what is going on?

If I have sliced the STL, it becomes a G-code file. I wanted to make modifications as to the X/Y and Z which I can do before I slice. We can do withe G-code but very cumbersome. I saved the G-code on removeable USD stick. Then I wanted to get back the STL file with Cura but it does not have the option. Version 15.4 had the option to convert G-code file back to STL. Verison 5.xx does not have that option. So I have to find the orginial file on the internet to modify. Also I do not know what is the purpose of the TF card. When you use the removeable save option, it does so on a USB and not the TF card because when I insert the TF card on printer, they do not appear. I have most of my library 3d files on the USB sick.

Great Video! After fighting 3D printing from the days of $60 'kits' to today I've not been able to print reliability and now I know why. I still don't know how to get a K1 and Ender 3 V2 Nano profiles set up in Cura but Creality added the K1 to their Creality Print product, still no Ender 3 V2 Nano... I'll spend the next few days watching.

Ok I have a question, hoping you see this sooner because I just got cura and am working on my first part. But you said that 1.2 would give you 4 walls? Wouldnt that be divided by the .4 nozzle, being 3 walls? and if your layer height is .2, wouldnt that be divided into 1.2 being 6 top and bottom? if not please explain. Need to ask a question about saving your work I am printing an eiffel Tower with a number of parts and they arte different sizes so multiplying by 250 Obviously you can save the Print File to the card and Computer But if I want to go back into it to change i presume i save it as a project I like you have a number of Printers - a AnyCubic Kobra Neo and An Ender 3 So thery will need different settings In fact I guess that the two Neos might need to be fine tuned Can they all be saved in 1 Profile I assume the settings for each printer are stored there THANKS FOR THESE VIDEOs

Hello there. I have found this video exremely helpful. Unfortunately I have a problem which I don't understand. I can't get the nozzle to be close enoigh to the bed to actually produce a print; it just comrs ot as string because it is way too high. I have double checked everything including going throigh the bed levelling process. It is an Ender CR10s Pro printer. Any ideas?

I have an Ender 3 printer. I upgraded the bed to the magnetic style. I cannot get anything to adhere to the bed. Ive changed out the nozzle, changed to a different color of PLA, I have adjusted the bed temperature from 50 to 60 and I don't know what else I am missing. Oh, I have also played around with the height of the bed. Can someone help me please?

I recently got an anycubic kobra 2 neo as my first ever printer and it prints out of the box with their settings on their slicer. Followed their suggested inputs for cura and am having trouble even getting bed adhesion. I suppose I need to make all their values closer? They default settings and temps they suggest aren’t the same for both slicers 😅 I need help lmao

All right so I'm having a little issue. I downloaded ultimak Acura Through linux... well when I the little file button on the top left it goes to my file folder but completely exits out the ultimaker cura app so I have to go back into Linux and do the ./Cura.... and load it opens the program again. Great video. Just got my first printer. SUNLU S9 Plus 310x310x400mm 0.4mm Nozzle. Comes with Cura. Haven't even taken it out of the box yet. Been studying the field for several months. Don't plan making thing verse toys or benchies. Want to jump right in on my own figurines. Two questions remain unanswered in all the tutorials I studied. I plan to make them hollow for filling with Styrofoam, and in sections to make figures larger than the build volume. With the exceptions of the feet, crotch, under breast, and shoulder sections which I recognize will require support most of the figure is a series of basically cylinders. The questions are; Is there an infill setting to just make infill a half inch inside the cylinder shell, and is there a setting to add attachment hard points to the rims of the cylinders to connect them together. If not I can make those modifications to the figurines in a CGI program but it would save a lot of work if cura does it. Don't need a whole tutorial on those settings. Just are the setting mods there?

When I select slice it says "unable to slice". what are some reasons for this?

I’ve seen this a few times. Typically it means the model has too many polygons and there is too much detail to process. Another is the model is corrupted and it’s won’t work due to holes in the model or it’s created badly. Another could be a Cura issue if it still does it after restarting the program maybe try reinstalling Cura. Hope that helps.

Does Cura 5.x crash often for others? It has been crashing for me for each iteration of 5. Even the new beta version crashes. Has anyone else had this issue? Do you have any solutions to fix this?
