its good to see failures too and ngl, knowing what the "story" of the diorama was, its like the ratling tripped a security system that distorted reality in that room so in that sense it looks dope af.

I actually LOVE how it turned out - it looks a lot more complex and intricate, and I could stare at it for hours, imagining that the bubbles and cracks are like caves (or clouds) and there is a story going on inside, compared to other diaramas that are pretty but tell the entire story at a glance. I'd sure happily keep this "failure" for inspiration! :D

It is sad that it did not turn out like you wanted it, but I absolutely enjoyed the video and the colaboration with the other two channels. It still has an unique effect in the glamour shots. try to save it, make a slightly bigger mold, then where the big air pockets are use a small drill bit to open that air chamber, pour resin around it so its submerged and put it into the vacuum chamber, the vacuum chamber will suck the resin into the voids

You can just imagine that the "failure" is just what opening Pandora's Box looks like. The artifact treasures inside the box had within it demonic warp tented objects and opening the treasure chest imploded. The implosion caused the Black Stone Fortress area to either transport to the warp or create a 4th like dimension. I think you could make up some interesting head cannon thoughts around this "mistake." All I would do is clean up the sides paint it black and label it 'Pandora's Box Unleashed"
@jensfunk8726
@jensfunk8726 Жыл бұрын
Absolutely. I followed the video thinking about another "looky pretty nice, maybe some time i may come close to that"-result. But frankly, that unpredicted "desaster" looks so much more interesting and sparks so much more curiosity - and my first thought was also: opened the chest and now the warp takes hold at this deck. Just cool! Just finish it properly and mark it as a project that had its own ideas over yours :)

While it is a "disaster", it is a very cool looking "disaster"! Side note: With any 2 part epoxy/resin pours, the larger the pour the greater the thermal output of the chemical reaction will be. This is one of the main reasons why deep pour dioramas with plastics are very rarely done until all of the plastics have been fully encased in that resin with smaller pours to protect them from melting. Resin is a very fickle mistress!

When dealing with epoxy resins, thicker castings are more prone to what is known as "thermal runaway" where the chemical reaction causes a feedback loop and generates more and more heat with the neighboring volume of resin. This sort of thing can also happen if you over-catalyze the resin (adding too much catalyst/hardener) which in some cases can even start small fires.

*TO AVOID BUBBLES AND CRACKS ON DEEP RESIN POURS* For this technique you'll need one of those horizontal garage freezers. First, seal completely your object all around with a layer of resin to make sure there are no voids, trapped air will off-gas and bubble out as the pressure and heat of the curing process will push it out, let it fully cure before moving on. Then you'll need to keep your resin in the refrigerator for 48h before pouring, let it get to 60F / 15C or so. Place your object and the mould inside the freezer before pouring. Mix the resin and degas it as normal then pour the resin and keep your freezer as cold as possible. It will probably still take a few days to cure but you can perform a single pour (no layers!) of a block about 60 x 40 x 30 cm, possibly larger. It depends on the brand of the resin of course, but I believe MAS Deep Pour was the one used. *CREDIT TO: BM Sculptures* , you can see his technique in this video: Carving a (turtle) out of Epoxy & Wood

You poured too thick, and caused an exothermic reaction. you must use resin that is rated for pouring at that depth, like Liquid Glass. UV resin, and even total boat, will smoke when poured this deep. Removing the lid would not have helped unfortunately. Take solace in the fact that nothing you could have done after you started the pour would have saved it. Pouring in layers would have worked but would have taken really good timing with a pour so deep. Deep pour resin can also take up to 3 days to cure. though that gives you more time to pour layers and achieve an appropriate bond. Good effort, and beautiful attempt. Don't let it be your last
@LennertMP

I spent three days last week to make a 18 mm deep pour of resin. I did three layers out of fear of this would happen and all the time I was wondering if it was really that important... I guess it was! Pouring resin is just nerve wrecking. I hate it for this exact reason! It's like an event horizon, you pour it and that's it, no more going back.

Chin up! It's a learning process, and sometimes things happen. At least now you know. Would like to see you try this again. Good that you shared your failings and now maybe you should think about finding out more about the different types of resins for different types of circumstances. You should have used some type of Deep pour resin. Something like a 3-1 would have cured slower and the exothermic reaction wouldn't be as likely to happen, which is what happened in this instance. I think after doing some proper research, it would be fantastic to see either this or something similar being recreated. All the best, Diane, UK xx

Massive exothermic reaction. Big pours will do that. Use large pour or deep pour resin and you can also cure it in a fridge (not one you use for food) to keep the heat low.... Pouring in layers will always end up with layer lines unless you wait for each layer to fully cure and lightly sand away the gloss and clean all dust away.

I really appreciate that you put this video out there, and that you put in the extra effort to make it a video at all! In this community, we see hundreds of amazing projects and it's great to see the process that everyone goes through to gain the skills.

I have seen loads of Bm sculptures experiments pourng deep resin boxes and putting them in a refrigerator to try and stop the reaction.. so this was hard to watch .. It was just like .. NOOO DONT POUR SO MUCH :') Well done for posting your failures along with your successes !

I think it's BEAUTIFUL! As others have said, it would have been terribly difficult to capture the MOMENT of a massive spell casting imploding if you had set out to do so, but look! That's what you GOT!

It happens to every resin builder at least once. No worries, just remember the mistakes and try something different next time.

I just finished watching all three videos and although its sad that your amazing diorama was destroyed in the last steps it provides a good learning lesson for all. Imagine if the squiddy bois went and dumped $5000 worth of resin on their 2 WARLORD TITANS without learning from the mistakes that all three of your projects went through. It would be a tragedy the world couldnt handle and might cause a major extinction event like what happened on Isstavan V.

While this pour isn’t exactly what you were expecting, I still think the piece can be beautiful if you change its meaning. So allow me to tell a un-drafted short story It was bitter cold… -30 degrees. but Sensors picked up treasure hidden deep under the ice, the biggest haul I’d seen in my 20 years working this job. So I strapped on my dive suit, and and got to work with my heated drilling unit. The unit doubles as a source of heat so you don’t end up hypothermic. It’d been actin’ weird all day, but I wasn’t about to give up this haul because my drill was a little on the fritz. Nigel informed me that my entry hole had already skinned over with ice, it happened sooner than I expected. But at a depth of 40 ft and counting, there wasn’t much I could do except push on. Meanwhile on the surface, mig and patty noticed some aliens checking the dig site out, likely attracted by the noise. It was once I reached the treasure, at about 58 ft, that all hell broke loose. A large piece of debris freed itself from the ceiling of my tunnel, landing directly on my arm, Also dealing the finishing blow to my drill unit. Nigel quickly affixed his grappling hook, and jumped through the now greatly thickened ice layer above my tunnel. The impact shattered his femur. The aliens saw their opportunity, and leaped for mig and patty. I tried to warn Nigel… warn him about the ice closing in on him… warn him about how my arm was pinned, and there was no way he could’ve hopped to get me out with a broken leg. But I couldn’t reach him, my coms were shot. So, Nigel froze to death, mig and patty are ripped to shreds, and my dive suit just barely keeps the hypothermia from taking me. As my oxygen runs out, I take one last look at the rock pinning me down. Its the biggest junk of black opal I’ve ever seen… killed by the very treasure I was looking for.

It sucks when a project doesn't turn out the way you hope it will... but yknow. Just _narratively_, this works perfectly fine - sometimes you dive for eldritch treasure in a blackstone fortress and the water(?) turns against you, turning you into a fine red mist. That's life in the 41st Millenium...

once again i will say, READ THE INSTRUCTIONS!!! resin says how deep of a pour you can do safely without a thermal runoff, your rush to do one massive pour is what caused it to boil
