Willie is so great I love all his music. Till I can gain control again is my favorite of all his songs though. I love to hear his guitar work. I can't say he has a great voice but man it works and you know it's Willie. He does march to his own tune which is why he is so freaking great!!! We can only with to be like this at 80. Happy Birthday Willie!

Out of kindness I suppose. I was born in El Paso, lived many years in LA, and went back to Mexico-- Tepic, Nayarit.and Baja Calif Sur. Federales were not ones I wanted to run into. They had machine guns. Somehow I like Willie Nelson, Townes Van Zandt and Santana. I love Countryman, Willie doing reggae (oh, yeah, I spent a year in Jamaica [St. Ann's Parish] and played my percussion stuff at a Nyabinghi). Strange companions... maybe that is why I am now living in Montana barely anonymous

I've loved Willie since I first saw him on our old Black & White TV in the early 50s. I believe I was 16 or 17. Daddy hated him. Said he could not keep a beat and could not sing in tune but neither could Johnny Cash and he made it big also.

cleethogwallop, I believe that off beat rhythm that Willie has is why I like him. I sing off beat also. My daughter hates to sing with me because she says I hold her back and come in at the wrong time.

His off beatness is why I love him. There was a saying that when Chery Crowe sang with him, Kris Kristopherson had said to her, “sing loud and try and keep up”. Live him too

Good story, strange thing is, in the 50' Willie used to make an effort to sing in tune and on the beat. The less he bothered the better he got. The guy vibrates to a different rhythm, thats what makes him such a one off.

@@johnmetcalfe2482 Not exactly. Musicians refer to it as 'playing with time'. He is constantly singing behind the beat, but it's by design. And it's magnificent.

Willie is like Louis Armstrong. Not a great voice, but it doesn't have to be. He is what he is. When Willie and Louis start singing, you know immediately who it is. It's like my father used to tell me when I told him his signature was unreadable: "A signature is not meant to be read. It's meant to be identified."

Son bien malisiosas las traducciones. Saco conclusión. A mí me gusta mucho éste cantor. Por algo será me digo a mi misma. Hay que confiar en la intuición ,por lo menos.
