Carrie, never down play your accomplishments. As Jamie says in The Last Five Years: "I will not fail so that you can be comfortable. I will not lose because you can't win." Wise words to be found in musicals... listen to them 😊

Yep! Artists I follow post their work, teachers I know share compliments or cards they've received from pupils, my brothers who are in the merchant navy share updates on things from training they've passed to beautiful photos of the destinations they're working in! And yes, I do feel envy when I see those updates but also I feel happy for those people, and I can't imagine how negative the world would be if you could only talk about mundane things and never be proud!

I know this is an old comment but I agree whoever wrote that tweet is completely wrong my dad has PHOTO ALBUMS from years ago with all of the DIY he’s done that he’s proud of, of course things have moved on now and he either keeps them in his phone, sends them to my mum or puts them on insta. Why shouldn’t he share things he’s done and is proud of. Some people are so miserable and bitter 🙄

I totally agree with you that people are discouraged from celebrating success. I do find that it's weirdly easier to talk about things I haven't achieved than those I have, which is a bit off. So, in light of that - I recently got a new job and I'm really excited and proud because it took me ages and a lot of work to get it!

When I was 8 I got a part in a film just randomly after a casting director came to my small town school. It was so exciting for 8yo me. Yet when I came back to school I got bullied, spat on called a show off. This made me not pursue an acting career just to fit in. Growing up it made me not want to do anything theatrical or creative :( I'm now 38 and a mum of a 5yo who I would hate to ever not be proud of something he's done. Thank you for saying about being proud of success. Meant a lot xx

Your sentiments on personal success really hit me. My husband has been going to school for design and he’s been trying to build his portfolio. He has been minimizing his talent because he doesn’t want to be viewed as cocky. He is REALLY good at what he does and I wish he could openly talk about something he’s proud of without being afraid of sounding cocky. He’s been doing better lately and has even talked about being able to apply for specific jobs soon that would be in this wheelhouse. Thank you Carrie! Thank you for being unapologetically yourself and spreading truth. If you are confident in something that you do, you shouldn’t have to be quiet about it.

Thank you for talking about how we should be proud and feel free about sharing our self achievements. To be honest, French education tends to reward the "worst" students in the class when they accomplish a tiny achievement (which is great) but conversely they totally minimize the work and prowess of the good and hard working students, which obviously leads the good students to become lazy and not as good as they should be. This society is going mad. But what people forget too often is that positivity generates positivity. I absolutely get that you can be upset when someone tells you they've achieved something you've always dreamed of achieving. But instead of being jealous, depressed and mad about it, you should feel proud of your friend and be happy for them. They should be a source of inspiration to you instead of a source of stress and negative wave. Spreading happiness is important, even if you're a bit upset deep down. We should all support each other more and spread love and positivity. Thank you Carrie for this video and for opening our eyes on real society matters. We love you.

I think Carrie has hit the nail on the head, I got a new job as a support worker for women with mental health needs back in December and i have never done a job like this and i was nervous about starting and not being good enough but i have found out that i just need to be there and listen if the women are having hard time and help them live more independently and i found out that, that is what I'm good at and i haven't said anything to friend and family because i didn't think they would care or be interested in but I'm proud of myself for taking that step outside my comfort zone and helping other people who need someone to listen to

7:45 I think this quote is more directed at the people who don't appreciate the moment they're in, bad or good. If you're given a great opportunity and all you do is complain about it, it shouldn't be okay for you to gloat or brag about it. You have to earn the right to be proud of an accomplishment when you've already put in the time, effort, and gratitude of getting there. But yes, absolutely, if you've worked hard and you're proud of your achievements, preach it!!! Also, you seem to take care of yourself so incredibly well and I seriously envy and applaud you!!

We have a "law" in Norway called "Jamteloven" and it was made a long long time ago that basically has different bulletpoints saying that "don't feel you are worth anything" and "don't think you are good at something". I achieve through sport and that’s my thing but I never like to speak and tell people about my achievements incase they judge me. There’s people better than me at sport but I’ve now realised so what! There’s always going to be people better if not you wouldn’t have people you look up to and aspire to be like and from now on I will tell everyone about my achievements. I will post it online for the people better than me to see because at one point they were in my position and soon I’ll be in there’s ❤️❤️❤️ Also Carrie I got one of your signed Eponine postcards and it’s on my wall so I can look and admire it all the time ❤️🤩

I'm the same way, I am a dancer. Quite good at it really, but I tell myself that I'm not good.. or as advanced as others. Granted I'm in the upper levels. So I agree with you 100% and I'm proud of all the hard work you put into being the best version of you!

I’m so happy you talked about celebrating one’s successes!! This makes me happy because I just got into the university degree I’ve been wanting to do for a while, but only after being able to do a Bachelor of Arts degree for a year. And at first and I originally felt like I couldn’t be proud of myself straight like all my family and friends until I’ve actually done the work for it. So you talking about this made me think, “I should be proud of myself and celebrate because I have done the work and have been wanting this for a while and I’ve done it!!” So thank you Carrie for this it just boosted my confidence in myself and made me realise that need to be more proud of myself and my achievements. 💖

Carrie you continue to inspire me greatly, but YES to that speech about being proud of our accomplishments!! I agree we continue to downplay our achievements, I went back to ballet after years away and have been put on a waiting list for a company and currently doing classes with Scottish ballet plus hoping to train in MT next year, and I always find myself downplaying it in fear of sounding "up myself" as I've been told before, but honestly thank you so much for this!! Xo

There's definitely a difference between celebrating your accomplishments, and acting self-congratulatory. The biggest difference is your intention, which usually you can make clear with your tone. So no, there's nothing wrong with being excited by your accomplishments and sharing them.

I think you made an amazing point as I feel great when I tell people my achievements but then feel I have to coup them up as people get jealous. Also your such an inspiration to me and I love you very much ❤️ xx

I have loved watching your amazing adventures and incredible things you’ve done/do. Seeing you run is epic inspirational. Seeing you write books while working in a show makes me think that maybe I could do that too. Please don’t ever feel like you can’t celebrate your wins cause of the haters. If they were happy with their own lives then they wouldn’t be online looking at yours.

Hi Carrie, I saw you in Les Mis on the day you filmed the start of this vid. You were absolutely amazing, as was all the cast, and your performance reduced me to tears. I drew a picture for you, but actually couldn't see you at the stage door in the end because I was with my BTEC musical theatre class and we had to get the train :( thank you for being such an inspiration xx

9:20 a few weeks ago I got a part in a trio at a school concert, and I was immensely proud of myself and I worked hard to get it, and one of my friends. blurted. out "I deserve it as much as you deserve it, I don't understand why I didn't get it and why you got it" blah blah, and honestly it made me so upset. I felt instantly guilty for. talking about it, and felt guilty that I had got this part and she hadn't. looking back now, i wish id looked her in the eye and told her to quieten down, because actually, I think I deserved that part more than her, and watching you confirm this has made me believe that even more. I think in the modern day society, things that used to be so very impressive are becoming less and less impressive as more and more people become part of the craft. you. put this point perfectly carrie, so thank you. xxxx

Celebrate you (everyone, yes you) and your achievements. Some people may choose to be envious, others may be inspired and you celebrating can help them. Either way, you can't control how others will react so live from the inside out and share your happiness.

OMG well said carrie. I am 100% jealous and envious at ur achievements in the performing arts world, that doesn't then mean that im going to sit here and say don't share any of it. it is amazing what you have done with your life and u should celebrate it however you want. never shy away from ur achievements. I wouldn't. - sorry that part of the video literally hit me and I loved it. be you, most importantly ! xx

Couldn’t agree more. I was lucky enough to get my own business at 24 - I’ve built it up to what it is now (1 year on) by plugging in lots of hours and living without a wage for a year! I’ve done it all myself, and I’m proud but I can’t discuss it or saying the business is going well, when I have in the past I’ve been told to remember where I come from and to stay humble and not get big headed. I now feel when someone asks how’s the business I just say fine and change conversation!

I love the speech about celebration!! I’ve signed up for a 6.5k walk and I keep downplaying how proud I am for training for it (and hopefully achieving it), but I should be proud!! It’s a big deal for me!!
