Watching these I've realised that somehow these 'original' versions of the fairy tales are actually the ones I grew up with. This story is exactly the one I remember hearing as a child and so is the Little Mermaid one and the Rapunzel one and the Rumplestiltskin one too!

Did you know, in he very first version (the Grimms published multiple) the Evil Queen was actually Snow Whites Mother? Like, her real mother. And she hated her, because as she got older and more ugly, Snow White got older and more pretty and the Queen accused her of having robbed her of her Beauty. Her. Own. Mother.

I didn't know that! I bought a book of original Grimm's fairytales and it said stepmother, and so does the movie! You learn something new everyday I guess!!

MolsaMakesStuff The Grimms only had that in te very first version. They published mutiple editions of Fairy-tale-collections and ever since the second it said stepmother.

Thankyou for talking about the original Snow White story! I think a lot of people forget that the Disney movies are kid versions of the Grimm Brothers stories and that a lot of the details were changed or left out.

I'm taking Mythology. It is said the glass coffin in both Snow White & Sleeping Beauty may have been taken by the Völsunga Saga where the fallen valkyrie Bryhildr was turned mortal & had to sleep in a glass coffin until someone wakes her with a kiss. Also this video helped me a lot on a critical paper that I'm working on. I'm writing on how the tale of Snow White may have been inspired by 2 actual Bavarian noblewoman that existed in the 16th century, Countess Margaretha Von Waldeck & Maria Sophia Catherina Von Erthal.

when i was like 5, there was a snow white puppet show for kids at the school near my house and my aunt took me to it. The puppet show was this original story not the disney, so I watched a puppet devour a fake heart. you can imagine those nightmares.

Cinderella is almost worse, when she's locked up in the tower her step-sisters try the glass-shoe (classic, as we all know), and of course it doesn't fit on either of them. But they weren't done there, oh no, they tend to go the extremes here. The CUT OFF the BIGGER PART of their FEET, and then it fits. But then Cinderella comes down and is like "oh no, wait it's my shoe", and she gets married with the prince at some point. Imagine if Disney made it exactly as the originals though! >:D Dear lord...

You can find it at Barnes and Noble! It's just a big collection of Grimm's Fairy Tales. It's usually kept with the nice-bound versions of classic books. That's where you'll find the original Rapunzel, too.

My Mother teaches various types of history to adult classes, and recently did a course on fairy tales, trying to track the various versions and tracing the tales as far back as possible. I think that, in the earliest account of Snow White that she told me about, Snow White is actually a changeling child, and somewhat evil and seductive.

I read a version where the apple wasn't poisoned but actually enchanted so that she couldn't swallow it and that she would choke on it. Which still doesn't make sense, because when people choke, they don't come back to life when the stuff is taken out.
