In Warszawa we had a lot of Trabants in the outumn 1989. They were left by east German turists who come here to get into a train and go to west Germany. After some time they call it The train of freedom. It was one of the possibility for them to get on west. So very fast there was full parkings of Trabi. Here and there were some stories about some people who got Trabant from such turists for free. But most of them were just landing on police parking and it was possible to buy them from Police. Because many of them had papers inside. It was very cheep, but There was more Trabi than people who want to buy them. So most of them go to the junk yard and got smashed. About the train. In Poland it was full legal to get to this train. They didn't need to go to W.German Embassy first like they do it in Praha in Czechoslovakia. And police in Poland did not try to stop them. Nobody count them ider. They just go to the One of the train station, find on free place in the wagon and wait for train to start. I remember the news from that time. They were singing and drinkind and happy. So after a week there was more of them and more Trabants of course. The train was going to WestGermany.throught East Germany. So there was a rumor in Poland, That during trip throught E.G. more people got in to a train. Some say, that twice more. It was short time, because soon they smash Berlin Wall. So they didn't have reason to go to Warszawa, to go to west. I just wonder how many of them missing they's Trabi today?And how many of them just missing a time they spend in GDR. Or how many of them has come back to home after the borders were open? greetings to all who run to the west throught Warszawa. Your Trabi waiting for you !!!

Super video! Trabi to je kultovní autí, to mi líbí. :-DDD Jinak vždycky když vidím Barkase tak si řikám sakra, to nemohly taky tak ňák vypadat Š 1203? ;-)

Can someone tell me about Red trabants? I've never seen one before. Were they on the color charts when your ordered them? Why are they so rare?

I see red trabants from 70´s and last red was 4 stroke 1.1

I've never seen one. Asked my dad (Was alive in Hungary 70's 80's.) and he said he's never seen a Red Trabant either. He didn't even know they existed.

@@ChannelNotFound It's a prototype called "Versuchsfahrzeug V0072". Also the sign says "DDR Umlackierung", meaning the car had a paint job done during the time of the GDR. So it's most likely not the original color. What makes this different from a normal Trabant is listed under "Besonderheiten" (Features): - Fuel tank beneath trunk. - Core ducts on various parts of the body - Modified windscreen wiper motor - 70 kg more in total mass Vehicle is the 72nd prototype from VEB Autowerk Zwickau, which recieved small changes to the bodywork.

I know, but there are red ones out there. Like the 1,000,000th Trabant. My neighbors had a 70's red trabant with original paint (was the only I ever saw).

@@ChannelNotFound There was a deluxe version at the end of the 60's which was colored in red/white with red leather interior.

@@DDRMODZ Ja war auch erschrocken als ich das vor paar Monaten gesehen habe. Wohl zu wenig Interesse oder zu wenig Geld. Auf jeden Fall ist es leider geschlossen. Aber schon 7 Jahre ist echt krass.
