In case you're running your workstation directly on your computer and your Server on a VM on another computer, Ensure that in your VM network settings, you use a Bridged Adapter instead of NAT and select the exact WiFi card of your host computer for the pinging to work. And also enable promiscuous mode too in advance.

I think this is where lots of people will fail. Best to cover all bases in the tutorials. Esp running everything from a VM.

Hey, think I'm stuck on that particular moment, and maybe somewhere else, not sure but after I connected to DNS server, my PC lost connection, and don't know why that happened. Do I have to be connected to a network in my VM machine or not really? Thanks for answering

I appreciate your work, really, if it weren't for you I would be completely lost, however I just wanted to throw a little fun fact I found, in this 3 video tutorial series, at first I couldn't use the default network from Oracle VM VirtualBox (NAT) so I followed some other youtuber advice and went ahead by setting up a custom NAT Network so both my Windows Server 2019 machine could communicate with the Windows 10 Enterprise machine (Both Virtual Machines), and adapted your work by setting the IP Address (IPv4), Subnet, Gateway and DNS accordingly to my new virtual network, after that I was able to sync both machines and was able to set up a domain, a working server, and the corresponding machine and credentials already registered. (All of this part of an assignment I have for college, which for sure I will pass thanks to your excellent guide

Hi, thanks for the great feedback and sharing experiences with your own lab set up. Adapting things as you have is a great way to learn, good to hear you have everything up an running. To answer your question about the network mode set up I used for the video. I tend to switch to 'Internal' network in the lab to sandbox things, particularly when working with DHCP role. I wish you well with your assignment, thanks for sharing👍

LORD this saved me so much heartache @El Mouse, my VirtualBox setup not being bridged has been the reason for HOURS of troubleshooting and not finding the issue. I'm sure it is an easy fix to some people, but this has been hanging me up for literal DAYS. Thanks! And great video, ittaster!!!

Can you explain or do a video on an example for a new user in another city/remote user gets a new computer out of box and we need them to help them join the domain. Let them create default user/admin log on to remote software , we set up another admin user , log in and set up VPN software and join domain. Seem to be seeing this after Covid a lot

Hi, my suggestion would begin with checking connectivity with the router by pinging it, and also take a look at your default gateway config on the server.

Hi Jon, thanks for the great video. I'm stuck at 4:50, when you do nslookup of the server by name. It only works for me if I disable IPv6 on my client. Apparently, my client is prioritising IPv6 over IPv4, which I understand is normal behaviour. Microsoft recomments to leave IPv6 on, as it is an essential part of Windows. I understand IPv4 can be prioritised over IPv6 on clients by editing the registry, but I was wondering whether there is a more elegant solution to my problem. Thank you for your attention!
@ittaster
@ittaster Жыл бұрын
Hi, it shouldn't be necessary to perform a registry edit. A possible suggestion to consider would be to check DHCP server config > scope options (DNS server IP, domain name issued to clients)

Hi Loving the content as I'm a new IT apprentice that has started last week. Being able to digest all this information is such a blessing, however I've got so many questions! In an massive organisation eg. school, college, there are many PCs. Joining each one to a domain would be extremely time consuming! I was wondering when capturing a deployment image, would the domain be part of the image if it was put in before the capture? Apologies for any stupid questions as I've only started and have no idea about networking.

if you make a golden image, each and every single setting and file will be in that image. If you've joined a domain, the deployed image will also be joining that domain

Hi, I am trying to migrate a small office of 4 PCs and 4 users away from an sbs2011 DC. I plan to start from scratch with a couple of server 2022 VMs in a brand new forest as whoever setup the current forest didn’t do so correctly. Would it just be a case of establishing trust between forests and then migrating the users over and decommissioning the old server? If so does the migration process require any third party tools such as ForensiT? Or is it possible to revert a (non-roaming) domain user profile back to a standard local/workgroup profile on the client PC without losing any data or settings? To then join the new domain. Your reply would be greatly appreciated! Many thanks for the helpful videos.

Another great video 👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿I bought a router from the ISP. The router has a default ip of 192.168.14.1 I'm trying to give it a static IP 192.168.1.10 but internet keeps cutting off. Any solution for this?
@ittaster
@ittaster 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, your router will very likely have DHCP set up. If you are using it to connect your Windows lab (server and a client device). You could consider basing your server and client IP addresses around your ISPs router set up (192.168.14.x) assuming your router subnet mask is 255.255.255.0. eg. 192.168.14.100 for the test Windows Server & 192.168.14.110 for the test client workstation. But check those addresses aren't conflicting with any other devices on your network. Hope this is of help Jon

In regards to static IP assignments - what if I have laptops that need to remain mobile? IE what if I want them to be able to authenticate into the domain from anywhere, not necessarily from the same office?
@ittaster
@ittaster 5 ай бұрын
Hi, DHCP is typically the preferred option for client devices such as laptops etc. In a multiple office scenario a WAN is likely to be in place or VPN solution.

@ittaster
@ittaster 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, moving a computer object to a new OU should be fine. it might be worth moving the computer back and performing a 'gpupdate' on the client and rebooting, to rule out an issue with the OU like a GPO applied to it that may be affecting it.

@@ittaster Thanks, it didn't work. But I just disconnected it from the domain and connected again. Not sure why though. Oh and another question, could you make a video how to attach a secondary DC in the VM? I tried, did the Sysprep to reset the SID. Everything seems to work ok, but the second can't find the first one. I'm guessing a DNS problem, what should I point the DNS servers in the second one? I run a full DNS and DHCP on the first one.
