Kanamarayathu is a 1984 Malayalam film written by Padmarajan and directed by I. V. Sasi. It stars Mammootty, Shobhana, Rahman, Lalu Alex and Seema.The story was an adaptation of the 1912 novel Daddy-Long-Legs by Jean Webster. This film won Kerala State Film Awards for the Best Story (Padmarajan), Best Music Director (Shyam) and Best Female Singer (S. Janaki).

I lost count how many times I`ve seen this movie.. I have the VCD of this movie as well.. I thought Kanamarayathu is one of the ever beautiful movies in Malayalam cinema history..i still adore oru madhurakinavin song and it`s dance scenes.. I understand Mammootty`s office is actually AV George`s office in Baker junction, Kottayam(that building has since been demolished). The watch shop is in fact Krishnan Nair`s watch house beneath the District co cooperative bank near Prakatt jewellers in Central junction. My late father happened to be at the watch shop when this scene was shot. I`ve seen the Peaugeot 504 of Mammootty`s with the reg no KRK 504 many times..The vintage car used by Rahman is in fact the car of Prakatt jwellers who were the producers as well.(the same car(changed colour) is shown in Poomukhappadiyil Ninneyum Kathu as Rahman`s father Thilakan`s car). The college scenes are shot in CMS college, Kottayam and school is Mt Carmel convent. I visited Vimalagiri cathedral in 2019 and apart from the chairs kept in side the cathedral, there is hardly any changes at all. During the song of Kasturi mankurunne..there is a scene which the cinematographer Jayanan Vincent is taking to Mammootty which I confirmed with the former. This movie was remade in Hindi as Anokha Rista in 1986 starring Rajesh Khanna(Mammootty), Tanuja(Mother superior), Smitha Patel(Seema), Shafi Imandar(Lalu Alex) and our own Sukumari(same role) and of course directed by IV Sasi himself. One of the scenes(where Lalu Alex introduces Rahman(comes on a boat wearing shorts) to Mammootty) of both these movies were shot in the same spot. I have the DVD of this movie but also available on KZbin. Thanks for the reading..

So wrong about the orphanage& college shooting sites, it was all shoot at Mt carmel school kanjikuzhy,kottayam. I'm studying there at that time. Shooting was during the summer holidays.

@@honeykanakkary Is anyone watched the movie Allkootathil Thanieya was shot in my house at cheruvandoor. Mammoty Seema and all others.That time i was in USA 🇺🇸 I live in USA over 50 years. The house was vacant. I was unable to keep the property because i wasn't planning to comeback to live in kerala. All my brothers had a sister live in USA. I sold the property. Thank you Biochemist PhD from USA

@@royjoseph3774 Yes, I know that Alkottathil Thaniye was shot in Cheruvandoor and seen that movie many times.. I guess I`ve been to that house.. One of my friends named Joshi who ran a PCO centre in Ettumanur had some connection with that house..and that`s how I went there.. Are you related to Joshi by any chance..? I was a frequent visitor to his place.. I heard that the artists including Mammootty, Mohanlal and Balan K Nair were staying in Hotel Aida, Kottayam during the shooting.. Those time ie early 1980s there were many films shot in and around Kottayam..(eg Nanayam, Pinnilavu, Kanamarayathu, Itha Innu Mudal etc etc...) Presently I live in Australia.
