There was no need to even call this election. Cameron's majority was good until 2020. And as we know now Johnson was able to win comfortable in 2019. So by 2024 they will have been in for over 14 years. Other than thatcher/majour, how many governments last longer than 14 years?

The main thing I can take from this is that the incoming conservative leader (assuming May leaves) takes a lot of info on board. They must learn to not underestimate the youth, and to give us more chances (by not raising tuition fees!). They also need to stop the cuts, the conservatives doubled the debt, but they shouldn't be allowed to make any more cuts to policing!

tbf the tory party is pretty sapped for leaders It's about time they face the same fate as the old Liberals, who let's remember were a major party for centuries, until they were supplanted a hundred years ago. The tories have proven that they are incapable of change and incapable of governing. They had one chance and they blew it.

1:20:46 It looks like the exit poll gives the Northern Irish seats as they were in 2015 (which as it turns out was quite different to 2017). Does this mean they didn't predict the Northern Irish seats correctly, or that the exit poll ignores Northern Ireland (and therefore simply assumes the 2015 result)?

The PM got this one wrong and may not survive until the next general election as prime minister. However its not all bad, because its reduced the influence of the SNP - a significant strengthening of the union and it does mean a more representative (of the people) parliament when brexit negotiations begin. Not a bad outcome but not what the conservatives wanted. But then they always put party before country.

Yes, I'm afraid you are wrong. The clock reset to five years with this election unless there is another snap election in the meantime. There almost certainly will be another election within a year since the coalition which has been formed with the Northern Irish Party looks inherently unstable and if the Conservatives cannot keep winning votes in the House of Commons, an election is inevitable.

Beginning at 3:56:00, The Times' Jenny Russell with the worst analysis and predictions that I have ever known from a journalist. Seemingly based on a man she spoke to who knows lots about this type of thing, it will take until around 2065 for the UK to get back to 2015 economic standards. I don't like to be negative, I really don't, but when people talk with such confidence and such authority on things that they clearly know nothing about, it is hard not to be annoyed at ignorant ideas given such huge platforms.

OK. All the voters have voted for a local Member of Parliament. The party with the most MPs, in this case, the Conservatives are going to be the government. BUT they don't have more than all the other parties put together (the overall majority) so they need another party to help. The only party which would agree to help them is a Northern Irish Party called the DUP. The DUP used to be close to terrorists in Northern Ireland and a lot of people don't think they will be a good party to work with. If the Conservatives can't keep winning votes of MPs in the House of Commons they can't make any new laws and there will have to be a new election.

Say what you want about Cameron bit in 2015 he got majority the Tories got 331 seats May called a snap election and didn't get majority come on the odds were in your favour bit a poor camaign not doing any debates and no plans on immigration no plans for bexit and for working class. May was too cocky and paid price now if she got majority it would been difficult still because the European Union are very subburon bit now it will be extremely difficult. She won't leave but her party is mess because of her.

@JudgeBane
@JudgeBane 7 жыл бұрын
It's a hung parliament, which means that the Conservatives have more seats, but not enough to pass anything, if I understand it correctly. Basically, Theresa May has shot herself in the foot.

Jeremy Corby has openly stated on a multitude of occasions that he is very much in favour of UNLIMITED immigration. In ANY country, that is a disastrous policy, and it will bring the UK to it's knees.

Such a momentous night. Always had faith in my fellow Brits - in fact left-liberal parties do always win the majority of votes when added up overall (Lab, LdEMS and SNP) usually win about 15 million votes, compared to right-wing parties which get about 12 million. FPTP is such a fundamentally unrepresentative system....and is supposed to give decisive results...which it clearly doesn't...

amar hasan I take it you're not from the UK? Basically Labour and Conservatives are polar opposites and directly at odds with each other. There is so little overlap that making a coalition would not serve any purpose. Conservatives are for a smaller government, controlling immigration (though not too much as it's still a bit PC). Labour wants open doors. Labour wants a huge welfare state conservatives don't. Taxes are less on the rich under conservatives. Labour generally are anti - Trident (our nukes) but conservatives are pro - Trident. One is left and one is right. It's like democrats and republicans in the USA

Her majority is not enough to form a govt as they don't have enough seats. The Tories have lost seats since 2015. May wasn't voted in by the public when Cameron left. They have got what they deserve and I don't see how she is brave and wise, complacent and arrogant. One of the greatest prime ministers of all time!!??? Their policies are anti working people, elderly, disabled, destroying the NHS, education,...She will probably resign soon.
