PLEASE NOTE - The original audio for this ident, That's Entertainment by the Jam, has had to be replaced due to a copyright claim. I've had to replace the music with something from KZbin's audio library, I tried to find something that closely resembled the sound of the original audio. My apologies for this, if you wish to see the full ident with the original music, it can be found elsewhere here on KZbin

It's worth noting that unlike a lot of channels that have started up in the very early morning for the last few decades, ITV1's start up was seen by a lot of people, as it started at about 9.30am, so I can imagine this promo strand got a lot more effort put into it than say the BBC or Channel 4 gave theirs. From ~6am-9:30am the 'breakfast television' franchise was held by a GMTV (Good Morning Television), which broadcast a breakfast show of the same name on weekdays. On weekends, it aired a kids programming strand called Dig'it or Diggin'it. (I believe GMTV was part owned by Disney, so it had a lot of shows like House of Mouse and Recess). This is no longer the case, as this franchise is now also owned by ITV. In London, the weekday and weekend (which I believe included Friday evening) TV was also once separate companies, Carlton (weekdays) and LWT (London Weekend Television). All of these franchises still exist, technically, but are all owned by ITV, except for STV (Scottish Television, which holds the Northern and Central Scotland franchises, formerly Scottish Television and Grampian). UTV, the last other holdout in Northern Ireland (Ulster Television), was sold to ITV in 2016. (They even for a period of time ran an STV2 and UTV2 variant of the digital channel ITV2). Channel Television (serving the Channel Islands) also went the same way in 2011, but it has kept a somewhat separate identity as ITV Channel Islands in some presentation last I checked? ITV is a lot more boring nowadays, at least from a presentation point of view!

Unless I've got this wrong, which I probably might've. When these were introduced, Northern Ireland (Ulster/UTV) used them for all of five minutes (more so, a few months) and then decided that they would rather stick with their own identity, which actually turned out better for them, at that point they were using a "picture postcard" sort of ident, basically a compilation of different areas in Northern Ireland.

A lot of people didn't like them because it pretty much negated the regions. Oh well.

Rusty Ralston I hear you, I meant more the idents themselves of celebrities doing wacky stuff, loads of people I grew up with have a fondness for them! But yes there were those who were against it all
