So happy for a new episode! Something that always drove me nuts about this film, is the ending, I was 12 or 13 when I saw it in the theater. The music swells into the JP main theme, the nightmare is over, Alan and Billy smile as the Kirbys smile at each other and their son. And all I could think to myself was….wtf are the Kirbys smiling about? You’re going to prison. Allan Grant is now going to be rich beyond is wildest dreams because he has all the right in the world to sue the living shit out of you forever. As does the Costa Rican government. You committed kidnapping, aiding in abetting, International trespassing laws international no-fly zone laws, conspiracy to commit fraud, fraud, involuntary manslaughter because of the people that died as a result of your actions on the island helping you. A sequel they could’ve made this movie is the trial and sentencing of the Kirbys.
@ItWasAShtShow2 жыл бұрын
You’re absolutely right! I didn’t even think of that. Would have been hilarious in one of the Jurassic Worlds there was a news report in the background mentioning the trial of the Kirby’s.

The only other movies I've seen that were directed by Joe Johnston are Jumanji and Captain America, both are really good, but it's funny hearing all these quotes from him and how brutally honest he is scenes. I had no idea he is like this. It sucks hearing that the actors and crew went through so much trouble to get this made, only for it to be a forgettable nothing movie. Aside from "Alan!"

That whole movie is an aggravating mess.
@mariac11602 жыл бұрын
That whole movie actually made me mad...characters or outcomes we were supposed to feel a certain way about (grrr "villain", go "good guys"/obligatory kids, aw "redemption" arc/romance) which I felt the opposite about. Actions completely inconsistent with characters' supposed personalities. The terrible trope of the woman running through the woods in heels, complaining loudly, and not only being a damsel in distress but actively making issues due to her stupidity and complete lack of common sense. All that despite the fact she was initially presented as someone intelligent, no-nonsense and tough enough to make a company of that size successful (as a woman no less). I haven't watched another JP movie since that one bc I figure it's not just a waste of time and energy, but also money, and it encourages studios to keep pumping out that bs. Normally movies don't actually make me mad. There are times details will annoy me, or inconsistencies will take me out of the story, or I'll think some parts are stupid, but if it's overall enjoyable it's worthwhile. If not, it's a waste of time but still doesn't normally piss me off. Unfortunately, I have trouble not finishing books or movies I start. That one drove me crazy in so many ways...it's been years since I saw it and I can't imagine the list of annoyances I'd have if it was more recent. I just remembered an almost constant internal monologue of frustration.

One camera guy looses one shot, a couple of thousands dollars get lost, so he gets fired, but the producers loose an entire script, f**!ng up the entire project, millions of dollars lost and they keep their job on the industry. Who the hell launches a multimillion dollars proyect without a script? FIRE HER before she does the same to Star Wars! Oops, too late. And No, this movie wasn't worthy at all! It only destroyed Alan and Ellie's relationship; thanks to that one producer again. Eric should have been Alan and Ellie's son, that would follow and respect Alan's character arc at the end of the movie when he finally liked kids, everything would had make more sense and motivations for him and even Ellie to return to the island would have been absolutelly justified without the need of a kidnapping plot. Why they didn't think it? It would not had advanced the story neither but it wouldn't had destroyed what the first one achieved.

The guy who runs out and gets eaten by the spino the scene where he rescues the other 2-3 merc's from veloraptors was cut. he shoot them and that attracted the spino to him the gunshots. 2. the spino when he suddenly appears he was sleeping( the phone call woke him up) in the background they didnt film him sleeping they were supposed to but it was cut. it was supposed to be a 1 second you seee him sleeping in the background and then he gets up and chases them. 3. the reason why he was chasing them 1 them injured him with the airplane propeller 2. they were still in his territory so he was chasing them out. 4. there was a theater scene that was later cut because it had baby dinosaurs killed the flyers baby's fell into the river and died/downed but for reasons they cut/digital removed that scene from most/all tv reruns and dvd. 4.5 it was billy when he's put in the nest he fights and gets the baby's into the river. 5. they kind of forgot the spino was injured so they forgot to keep its spine damaged in the filming. 6. the spino scene in the river was supposed to in movie 1 but it was too long so it was cut. 8 minute scene 7. alot of people missed it but the mom wasn't really looking for her son she was trying to get her boy toy(the died guy in the parachut) she was yelling in the speaker for him not really her son.

Lost World was actually my very first Jurassic Park movie I watched as a kid. It was broadcasted on our TV which is known to license "bad cheap movies", but Lost World was actually just a really good movie for me. It also what exposes me to "Dino Crisis" which is also an underrated video game franchise. When I finally watched the first movie, I'm not saying it was worse but I find it "tamer" than Lost World. LW really expanded upon the concept from the first movie while also being more action-packed and grittier which I prefer. The ending quote from Lost World was especially memorable to me, I'd probably put it as high as the Terminator 2 ending quote. It really seems like Lost World was the perfect point to retire the franchise. Which is why I find Jurassic Park 3 a problematic but also kinda... fine? Because I think 3 was really leaning into the thriller aspect more than LW, which is also probably why people don't like LW as much as the first movie. Anyway, glad to hear there's people who also thinks LW is underrated :)

So Spielberg was originally going to make the T-Rex in San Diego scene for the 3rd movie but ended up changing his mind and added that onto the 2nd one as a 3rd act. In fairness, Grant not only thought it would just be a flyover, but the first act shows how his career is on the decline thanks to people not caring anymore about authentic paleontology and that's why he was desperate enough for some extra money to continue his digs. And in the first movie, its how he's convinced to go to the park in the first place too, being given further funding by Hammond. So Grant is always motivated by money in that initial trilogy, but for the love of his scientific field.

My list: 1- The Lost World. That movie was my theme that summer. Over hated. 2- Jurassic Park. It's a classic, c'mon! 3- Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. I enjoy it because it took the franchise in a different direction, the mansion scenes, the gothic atmosphere were really well done. 4- Jurassic World. Just fun, a good time. Yeah, it had dumb moments but I feel everything else kinda kept it afloat. 5- Jurassic Park 3. The new characters were insufferable, yeah they were regular people and not experts, but that doesn't make it any better, but it's short. Also, Spinosaurus was pretty cool. 6- Jurassic World Dominion. The Rise of Skywalker of the Jurassic series. Star Wars and Jurassic were pillars of my childhood, they're why I'm still a fan today, but their "conclusions" were just disappointing and they squandered the set ups of their previous entries.

The Lost World was I think the first movie in my life where I noticed the cinematography looked like shit compared to the first film. I couldn’t put it into words at the age of 10 or 11, but I knew something was off. There’s some cool shots here and there, but the majority of the shots have poor lighting, blocking, and framing for a Spielberg film with Janusz Kamiński as DP. I think they were overworked and much more committed to shooting Saving Private Ryan a almost overlapping with Lost World.

Unpopular opinion: Jurassic Park 3 is the best of the sequels. It knows what it is and doesn't do anything different. It's dumb, fun, and (despite the production) competently directed and edited. The score is great and the film avoids being self-indulgent or too over the top with how stupidly dull or poorly crafted it is. I cannot say the same of the Jurassic World sequels. Just pure vitriolic Trash. Lost world is alright but tries to take itself more seriously than it should. edit: a word
