With the exception of Melee (1 month after GC release), all of the Smash games came out 18 months+ after the console they were on. I think people underestimate how much longer Ultimate might be around

Do y’all top players ever just consider taking a 6 month season off of smash ? maybe focus on streaming and playing other games like rivals casually etc. If I was tweek, light ,leo and have been on top for so long I think I would be so damn exhausted and just want a lonnnngggg break at this point in the game. Then come back to the last season or something and enter with fresh eyes. a nice long break from the Steve g&w sonic meta lol . I am not a competitor but that is what I be doing in their position. Shit looks stressful AF

There are several reasons they don't do that. One is that if they are sponsored they are contractually required to attend tournaments. Two is similar: they have to make a living somehow, and streaming takes time to build an audience and become a reliable income source. Three, they would get rusty and lose a lot of their progress if they didn't stay on the grind. Four, they love the game. Yes it is stressful at times, but top players generally do very well under huge pressure because they are used to it.
