This was the best video explaining how to "chunk it up and slow it down" (or hack the snake into bits) for practice on each section that I have seen. Great job! Thanks!
@TMacFPV6 жыл бұрын
I need to elaborate on my "chunk it up and slow it down" comment. This process (what Alex describes as cutting up the snake into bits) is described in detail in a book written by Daniel Coyle, entitled The Talent Code--Greatness Isn't Born, Its Grown. Good, short read if anyone's interested. This process is used by elite athletes, performers, etc. to refine their talents in any field. Vanover (and Justin) are obviously using it well.

Very helpful info. This is one of the best videos I have seen breaking down racing tips into easy to consume chunks that less experienced people can actually adopt. I noticed improvements using some of these right after watching. Specifically to overshoot slightly and give your self a little extra room to power through a curved gate rather than take the tightest turn through a gate leaving yourself less room for any margin of error.

I wish I had more time to practice. Lol maybe I wouldn’t have been so bad at the Mayham race Sunday lol. I got so lost on the track in the first qualifier. Oh well my goal was just to have fun and that I did. Congrats Alex on the podium in the individual race Sunday.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for mentioning the transmitter angle changing throughout a heat, and how that affects you. I stand to fly, and for freestyle I have zero issues...but when I race this is 100% my biggest problem. When I grab the sticks correctly and don't move much I rip the course, but by lap 2 or 3 I'm doing mental gymnastics trying to compensate for my shifting transmitter! When I watch the better racers I def notice they tend to stay very still and level. Just don't feel right at all sitting and flying though. How did you make that transition, and what could help? Thanks for this amazing edit, Justin!!!
@Justinsmashh6 жыл бұрын
I just sat and flew and didn’t give up. I feel a lot more comfortable flying and sitting now and in time I think it will make me a better racer overall
@1917VIL6 жыл бұрын
So, it's just gonna be uncomfortable for a bit, but stick with it, got it. So hard to have the discipline when I get 20 sec laps on the MGP2018 qual track standing up and 30 sec laps and lots of crashes sitting down...discipline!!! Good luck in your regional qualifier:)
@1917VIL6 жыл бұрын
I've been so desperate to solve the transmitter issue that I've literally daydreamed about building a stand to set my transmitter in so it literally cannot budge, lol! I even fantasized about removing my gimbals from the transmitter, extending them, and hot glueing them to the arms of my lawn chair...nutz over this issue, but seriously, the difference between a non-moving session and a moving session is about 5 seconds a lap on the regional track--dramatic!
@Justinsmashh6 жыл бұрын
Haha I feel your pain trust me! I wanted to tie my transmitter to my belt that way it wouldn’t be able to be raised up and my neck strap would keep it from going down. I decided this was too geeky so I went with learning to fly sitting lol
@1917VIL6 жыл бұрын
hahaha! Yeah, I'll show up to nationals w/ my gimbal chair and transmitter stand, and you show up with a transmitter belt buckle...the Napoleon & Kip of racing, haha! Ok, well, good luck with your training, appreciate the advice, and onto sitting and 5 cell. BTW, you probably know this, but 4 cell IS NOT gonna cut it on the regional qualifying track...no way, no how! Try finishing all 7 laps of a 7 lap in 2:08 "pace," and see if you're battery isn't down to 8 volts end of lap 5 or mid lap 6:)

You made a nice race rates video some time ago, but I am wondering what the young fellow is flying. Are his rates a lot faster?
@Justinsmashh6 жыл бұрын
He runs about 600 degrees per second for everything, but has also been flying RC airplanes for a decade (just something to keep in mind)
@MsKoffeinjunky6 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much for the fast answer. I struggled a lot with your super low rates, thats why I am asking. Joshua Bardwell recommands something similar to you. I am flying planes and more important 3D heli for some time. I flew 100mm quads indoors for the last few months and getting back on the 5" is really hard. Indoors I got 3 buddies of mine to start racing so I want to focus more on racing than freestyle this season. Now I think I try something like this for racing: scontent-frt3-2.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/26731352_739198289619899_970454446101767040_n.jpg?_nc_cat=0&oh=5c6948cbf7b35fd17639aada8d3b653c&oe=5B6A4D46

By the way, what rates are u using in this video?
@Justinsmashh6 жыл бұрын
I have 400 degrees per second on roll, 360 on pitch, and 700 on yaw. Or as close to those numbers as I can get. In betaflight I just adjust superrate, in raceflight I switch over to betaflight rates mode using the quick switcher, and then change superrates there as well. I’ll be switching to the raceflight rates here soon but I’ll still be keeping the same degrees per second
