This specific generation is not really considered pioneers. The pioneers are Kurtis Blow, Grandmaster Caz, Kool Moe, Bizzy Bee, Melle Mel, King Tim III, Funky Four plus One. These were artists that were out 8 to 12 years before EPMD. You could even throw RUN-DMC in that group. There's a whole era of one hit wonders that came out with single hits before EPMD. We're using the term "pioneers" for the wrong group.

EPMD is one of my all-time favorite rap groups. You should definitely react to the video for their song "The Big Payback," The beat for that song is harder than this one, in my opinion. Also, the legendary rap group, NWA, makes an appearance in the video.

Young lady you definitely is beginning to have an awakening of real hip hop! Me I began listening to Redman when I was 10 years old lmao! Just like you I begin to go back instead of being in the present with hip hop. Yeah T.I., Jeezy and Lil Wayne was the music of my time? But I choose the the era before me! EPMD changed my life at 15 years old along with NWA and more..Now at 32 I'm glad to see someone like you that has a different outlook than the ones your age with rap music. You gotta listen to "Crossover" and "Headbanger" from EPMD! But also look into the history as well you'll be surprised at what you find out, the ups and downs of their fame. Nonetheless they're legendary!

They were more Conscience about what came out of there mouth. They were to positive and their positive influence made people of color think a different it uplifted many. The Government, the wealthy, and the music industry put a stop to progressive music. Did you know the music has a large interest in the Prison system. So here we are today because to the violent rap music they push to our youth. And today our prisons are over flowing and guess who is making all the overflow money. EPMD hell'a FRESH! Wake up. Queen Latifah rapped, "Who you call'n a bitch", I ain't a bitch or a hoe". Now look what brainwashing of the industry got our men calling our women today. Sad thing girls sing a long with it.
