Im from Eastern Europe and just want to say one thing, NBA where N stands for National, means that this is USA National championship, BEFORE Jordan enter NBA no one I know here was watching games from NBA, cause it was half a world away league...MJ enter NBA - every one of my friends around 1993 till 1998 had jersey of MJ AND because we started to follow what happens in NBA we learned about Magic and Bird, before MJ we had no clue what hapens in NBA - IT was just your national league, that was MJ's impact on the game. He made a national league the most followed and famous league in the world in time when internet wasent a thing, now tell me about who is the goat...

That was going to happen even if Jordan never played a single game in the NBA, Tazzz. The league was generating too much money to not show it outside the U.S. Jordan isn't the only great player, and he certainly wasn't the reason whole league is so popular. Europeans love basketball, so inevitably they'd get to see NBA games. Get a clue.

I just throw in my 2 cents here. Before seeing this video I knew Jordan was a GOAT, because I saw him play and I have seen Lebron, whole career. So no brainer. BUT there was this one thing - when Jordan was in the league, he was the best. There was no discussions. Best in his position, best in the league. With LeBron, there are better players at his own position AT THE SAME TIME as he is playing plus he is not the one and only answer to "who is the best in the league right now". You cannot be best of all the time if you cannot even win at your own time...just how it is.

MJ is the most complete player top to bottom in NBA history - never rested on defense, scoring champion and defensive player of the year in the same season, his numbers in his rookie year were 28.2 ppg, 6.5 trb, 5.9 ast, 2.4 stl off 51.5% shooting averaging 38.3 mins a game, played all 82 games 9 times including as a 39/40 yr old and did things on the court that even today's superstars can't match and still holds the average ppg record in an era where you took a literal beating going anywhere near the hoop. Put him into today's league with the soft rules, no hand checking and the advances in training, nutrition, travelling and sports science and he would run absolute riot over everyone at will and there wouldn't be a thing anyone could do about it. He is the GOAT, the whole GOAT and nothing but the GOAT...case (if there even was one to consider) closed.

Kobe is my personal GOAT, and he single handedly elevated the skill level of the whole NBA by showing the Olympic team what true work ethic was in Beijing. And I can even admit that the reason I like Kobe over Jordan is because he knew he would never surpass him, but he played every game like he was one game away. He obviously never passed Jordan but he got impossibly close too. The fact that the arguably#2 GOAT candidate got there by literally emulating Jordan shows that he's the true GOAT. LeBron vs Kobe is a more realistic conversation, and LeBron would lose there too IMO

MJ was the 90's from fashion, underwear, cars, sports drinks, shoes etc etc. In fact if we are being honest ALL NBA players today owe their lucrative off court deals to MJ who paved the way for such deals!! The problem is time and youth, the youngsters today simply were not born or old enough to know that era so they rightfully focus on what's in front of them. This debate of the goat is unfair to the players of this era and the players of past era's. James is probably and arguably the greatest player of this era. However in this era it is MUCH softer and MUCH EASIER to score than in any other era of the game. James has NEVER faced a player like Rodman or any of the great players in different era's. Jordan played in an era when every point was a fight. The absolute physical nature of the game was a hundred times more difficult. In the current era it's almost impossible to not shoot. There isn't a single player of this era who could play in Jordan's era. They're just to soft. James is absolutely in the top 3 greatest players of all time however he is never going to be the goat. Great but never the GOAT.
@Grey_Beard72
@Grey_Beard72 3 жыл бұрын
I totally agree. Also, these players, James included, drop to the floor over nothing. There was even a clip on here showing LeBron doing it. If half today's players were dropped into 1988 NBA, they wouldn't know how to act. People like Jordan and Bird would eat them alive.
@naughtydreems9548
@naughtydreems9548 3 жыл бұрын
@@Grey_Beard72 There's videos and interviews all over the web and in newspapers by the players of that era who have literally said and continue to say to this day, that absolutely any player in this era, all of them, if they were to play in their era that they would absolutely just chuck them around the floor. Players of Jordan's era came off the floor with blood running down their bodies, knocked out teeth, knots all over their bodies, blownout backs, bruised and broken ribs, broken hands and fingers, ect. And they were expected to play in the very next game. They fought for every single point, every single second of the game. Today's soft can't even take a basic charge without crying. Just totally different era's. Jordan today would be averaging at least 50 points a game and double digit in all other areas. I would bet real money to have Rodman while in his prime play absolutely any team of today's era. He would absolutely destroy them. That's why it's unfair to compare different players from different era's. That era was just more difficult physically than the modern bitch league era. James is arguably the greatest player in the bitch league era and Jordan is the greatest player of all time. All the greatest player in the past era's say that Jordan is the GOAT.

M.J. for me. He made sure that basketball was the association his name would have, and he lived up to that legend. Not only that, but he also didn't tarnish that name by getting himself mixed up in drama, he had no business being in, outside of the court. That's one thing I severely miss about when I grew up. Those figures(like Mike) knew how effective it was to let their actions speak for them and when they did do anything. Hell, it's almost been 20 years since he retired, and the guy still seems larger than life. Lebron's shot at that left him in the form of remarks that would suddenly have them neck-deep in outrage. Nowadays, it seems like those in my generation(like Lebron) have lost that art. LBJ does have a brand and presence to him, but it's not even close to scratching the surface of planet MJ.

With less rules, less risk, less physicality, lesser rules, easier path to the basket, more fouls in the modern era. Then you compared their contributions to the and it's importance and impact. Michael Jordan has no equal in the game of basketball. And just because you got more finals in an easier era, doesn't mean you better than the one you trying to compare to. We are not here to compare legacy, because all that Michael Jordan has accomplished, and achieved is untouchable. The only thing you can compare is he a better basketball player than Lebron. That answer is yes as well. We talking skills, footwork, on an off the movement, defense, team defense, lane defense, basket defense, defending your man defense. Michael Jordan is far superior to Lebron James. Greatest of all times is only Michael Jordan. When it comes to winning and how you win does matter. And since you think that how many times you went makes a difference when you have had more talent on your team than Michael Jordan ever had. So Lebron James has had the advantage and still failed more often than he won. Magic Johnson been to 9 finals and won 5 of them. Kobe went 7 finals and won 5 of them does that mean Kobe is the greatest basketball player of all time no. Their is more to it than rebounds, and easy assists. Since his only argument is longevity. He couldn't do it in the high standards that Michael Jordan did it in, and volume and short time. What Michael Jordan skill achieved is untouchable by logical observation. Yet year after year we hear the media pundits try everyday and every year. If you tired so are we. This video should end this foolishness once and for all. But their will be some that remain salty and very bias about this and all the proof that shows no one now, past, are present, and future is near his levels of skillsxall around performances.

The real difference between the 2 in scoring ability can't be shown by numbers because of the change of the way the game is played..Jordan had 30 ppg and LeBron 27 ppg. LeBron is heavily favored by the fact that there are no truly bigs in the paint today, just forwards and also the defensive 3 second rule which force centers to leave the paint open for drives..watch Lebrons dunk highlights, the majority are unguarded in open lane..if LeBron played in 80s or 90, considering he is a mediocre mid range shooter, he would probably be averaging 23-24 ppg in his career

Winning above all else. Herm Edwards said it best, "You play to win the game." How much you have to do with winning obviously matters too though, which is why Robert Horry is not in the debate. Longevity is something to take with a grain of salt when comparing players from different eras because today's players have a huge advantage with that over the guys from the past with better surgeries, training methods and diets. Winning is the biggest accomplishment of them all. Achievements like MVPs, they after but they're not end all be all by a long shot. Especially knowing they are media driven. Stats also need to be taken with a grain of salt because the rules are different in each era and nowadays the rules heavily favor the offense. The fact that Michael Jordan dominated on offense in an era where the rules favored the defense made him that much better to me though.

We revere football (soccer), but in the 90s, so many teenagers/young adults started practicing basketball, following the NBA (I remember watching the games on Saturday, plus a program highlighting the best plays of the week...)... That's all because of Jordan's impact. His competitivenesd, his athleticism, his charisma, his legacy... Michael Jordan is Michael Jackson level of fame, an international icon that became a household name in an era without the internet.

MJ has had a bit of a paradoxical career. He's part of the team that resuscitated the league, Bird and Magic helped also, by being each other's arch-nemesis while MJ did it by being everybody else's arch-nemesis and killing off the competition within the league. He is both a resuscitator and a killer, doing one to be the other.

I don't understand how this is even a debate... It's not even close if we're being honest. There are so few points where LeBron is even comparable and the one where he is clearly in the lead, *Longevity,* rings hollow AF when you consider that Jordan played in the 80s and 90s where the opponent could pretty assult you and probably wouldn't even get fouled for it. Calling LeBron "more durable" in this scenario is like calling a Prius more durable than a Hummer when the Hummer went to Afghanistan and the Prius cruised the San Fransisco suburbs.

Good video mate. You should google what Jordan has done for the community since around 1987 and that’s not even including how he helped other people’s charities like Magic. He did it in an era without social media and preferred to just do good without advertising it. As for passing, remember Jordan did go a season averaging 8 assists per game while scoring 32.5 ppg. LeBron has only averaged 8 or more 5 times and he’s meant to be pass first and has played with much better offensive players in an era where the rules are set up for the offense. Context mate.

Robert Paulson- Lebron pass first? That's funny. A pass first player NEVER takes the most shots on his team. Pass first players that come to mind: Magic, Stockton, Nash, and Kidd. As much times as Lebron has the ball, he only averages 2 more assist than MJ????????????With far better shooters and teammates?????????????Bad free throw shooter for someone that handles the ball as much as him and a lot of turnovers.

There is a huge difference between a player being the GOAT... and being your personal favorite player. I watched most of the players in the GOAT debate play live on TV. The game in the 80's and 90's was a whole different animal than the one that is there today. I don't think Lebron would be even discussed in the GOAT debate had he had to play in those decades. He's just too soft. Don't get me wrong, he plays well... but he's never really had to fight for what he has.

I think Lebron would have adapted to the 80s-90s game because he does have the size and power, but he would have been exposed heavily and would just have been an above average player at best. Jordan’s psychotic drive to win at all costs cements him as the GOAT in my opinion.

How good would a shooter who shot 33% from beyond 3 feet do in Jordan's era? He wouldn't often get to the basket, he would be gang-raped when he tried and then he would miss free throws. Stamina also, had a Tordoning job, walk all day on mountain sides covering up to 20 miles a day, one handed axe (bigger than a tomahawk), modified axe..? Other hand holds the poison gun and you have a pack of poison on your back...only about 7 kg.. About 98% leave after a day or 2 even though it usually means walking way out of huge properties then when U find roads hitch up to a days trip back home.. Most who stayed varied in height from about 5'6 to 6'0 and all mid to skinny, 2 heavier set guys, but struggled for speed to keep up and COuLD NOT balance on the steep sections.. always limited to flatter grounds. Also often lacked the stamina. In fact many of my jobs have suprised me how little visible weight and strength actually gave anyone much if any advantage. So 'bigger and stronger' thing is really not a good arguement in my eyes...at end of day these things out mention DEF increase longevity and assist durability, they don't make them any 'tougher' at all. When these type of questions are asked, I just wish everybody had the same amount of knowledge about the NBA. Everyone usually picks the best they saw in their era. Kareem just pointed out "I saw Wilt, Oscar, and Russell play". To me that is why LBJ is thrown into the GOAT conversation. I've been watching NBA games since games were on tape delay, and the Clippers were in San Diego. For me Lebron doesn't even make my all time 5, I got Magic, Jordan, Bird, Duncan, Kareem. The NBA is so soft now with rule changes, almost outlawing defense, and Flagrants. Look up McHale clotheslines Rambis, that was a 2 shot foul!!! No harm, no foul, no blood, no ambulance! I believe pre 2K greats numbers would be even better if they played now, and most stars of today would have their numbers drop if they played pre 2K. LeBron doesn't have that Savage Assassin Slit your Throat Chromosome, that's why I have him only in my Top 15 all time.

Ironically speaking, it's equivalent to seeing the Greatest Tetris Player Amemiya Taiyou against 99 Best Tetris players in the world and dominating them every game and those best players totally recognize the big difference between their skills against the Greatest in every aspects. And I think most people who saw both of these players in their prime would agree that Jordan was a far superior player. As the video said, Lebron is being compared to a player with no weaknesses in his game.. On a side note, imagine Jordan when he lost to The Pistons in the 1989 conference finals and that summer “taking his talents to Detroit” This alone ends the debate for me for Lebron (and KD).

Lebron James is still great there's nothing wrong to be in 2nd fiddle to Jordan or 3rd because I'm not a 100% sure he even passed Kobe Cause let's be real there's only been one other player that was anywhere close to Jordan and that was Kobe

Mike, opponents like Larry called him "god" for a reason. I am from Germany and was never a basketball-fan at all. Basketball isn't a big thing in Germany, it's soccer. But I tell you that back in the days when Michael played, I was sitting in front of the tv with 4 of my friends during the whole night just to see him play. There will never be a player like MIke.

Modern sports media doesn't want people to know the truth. Here is some data on MJ for anyone interested. MJ has no equal Jordan on Offense 30.1ppg for his career, most in NBA history 33.4ppg career playoffs average, most in NBA history 33.6ppg in 6 Finals appearances, most in NBA history 41.0ppg in a Finals series, most in NBA history 10 Scoring titles, most in NBA history 10 seasons with 2,000+ points, most in NBA history Jordan with Analytics PER (Player Efficiency Rating): Highest in history for both the regular season (27.91) and the playoffs. (28.6) Win Shares per 48 (WS/48): Highest in history for both the regular season (.2505) and the playoffs (.2553) Box plus Minus: Highest in history for both the regular season (9.22) and the playoffs (11.14) VORP per Game: Highest in history for both the regular season (.1083) and the playoffs(.1382) Jordan on Defense He was the first player in history to be selected to 9 All Defensive First teams. He was the first player in history to get 200 steals and 100 blocks in a season, it has still only been done by 3 players. (Michael did it twice). He was the steals leader 3 times. He's the only guard in history, relative to his position, both in the Top 5 for blocks and Top 5 for steals. He was the defensive Player of the Year and Scoring Champion in the same year, the only player in history to accomplish this. His 131 blocks for the 1988 season is still the most blocks in a season by a guard in NBA history.

In my book it ended for LeBron in 2011. LeBron was outplayed on the biggest stage by role players. He played 46 mins and scored 8 points going 3-11 in game 4. I don't think losing in the finals is a killer but it has to be competitive. Getting swept twice beat 4-1 twice and his poor showing in 2011 sealed it for me.
