I always felt like this was a story of a woman who lost her loved one at war, the Korean war to be specific. He said goodbye to her on a letter, promised to come back, she waited as she wrote her own letters for him at night (Through the night's Korean name is Night Letter) and as time passes she grows older, her hair grows to the beautiful Man Wol length, she has to teach her self to let go, so she goes to the place they said their goodbyes and leaves her letter for him there, her own goodbye years later. That's the storyline I saw in those two videos, and it had me crying my eyes out

I seem to recall she only ever release this as a FREE clip on youtube or Korean equivalent rather than a commercial release on streaming platforms? So she basically give up all that hard work, commercial licensing, and production costs as a sunk cost to her with no expectations of returns, out of a moral choice and ethical decision just because of her respect for the original singer. If so, that is pretty incredible, and admirable, especially in this day and age.

The reason why this is a ‘secret uaena song’ is because this is a song that was supposed to be part of Flower Bookmark 2 but was removed due to the scandal revolving around the original singer’s death. That’s why FB2 was delayed and IU and her team had a hard time during that period as well. She removed it as a respect for him and released it after some time so people could fully immerse themselves into this song without any influence from the scandal.

This version by IU was never officially released, thats why it becomes a hidden gem for Uaena. It was meant to be in her KkotGalpi 2 (AFB 2) album. If I recall correctly, this song to be the main track(?) bcos she loves the song. The mv done and the album even has just finished physical production. However, sudden tragedy and controversy happened within the original singer family, so IU decided to take out the song in respect to the singer. She had to destroy all the albums, and reproduced again. I saw her apologizing to her fans for the album delay during a fanmeet, she was heartbroken. It was sad to see 😭

This MV is definitely one of my favourite IU's MV.. I really love the song and the concept and the story. It's just perfect. I hope one day, IU will be able to release the song and the MV officially and let the world know about this masterpiece 😌

The reason why this cover was not released is pretty dark. 'With the Heart to Forget You' was actually supposed to be the title track for her second remake album "Flower Bookmark 2" but a couple of weeks before the release new news came out about the original singer's (Kim Kwang-Seok) daughter having been dead for years and accusations toward the mother for covering it up. This also made people start to question if Kim Kwang-Seoks death in 1996 was actually a suicide or if his wife murdered him. IU didn't want this song to be released during all of this as she thought people wouldn't be able to treat it as just a song and maybe people would be uncomfortable listening to it. The albums were already printed but they were scrapped and reprinted with this song removed.

the singer of this song committed s*icide and this song was one of his best selling and he got divorced by his wife so when IU was about to realease her album 'kkot-galpi #2' which translates to 'a flower bookmark #2' album the controversey of the original singers death rose again on news and releasing the album at the time didn't feel really good so she excluded it and that meant she had to rearrange the flow of the album which meant she had to extend the date of the release and she cried because she was responsible for it and that Uaenas had to wait a little more and the song never made it to the album so this song is really like a hidden gem if you're a hardcore uaena then you'll know about it and it's one of my fav song in this album (a flower bookmark) so I'm glad you found this gem thank you reacting and appreciating this song.❤️❤️❤️
