You can power it on from any recent Apple keyboard and power it off with a command in the Apple menu. So if you own an Apple keyboard, the only time you need to press that power button is the first time you turn it on. But even if you don’t have an Apple keyboard, you still don’t have a problem. You should be leaving it on overnight so it can do routine maintenance like rotating log files and downloading software updates. So just put it to sleep when you’re done working for the day, and wake it from sleep when you start working in the morning.

I just did a 4-minute test with multiple apps open on a base M4 16gb RAM Mac mini. 💻 Apps Open: Lightroom (working on layers), Photoshop (creating an AI image), CapCut, Finder (scrubbing through RAW photos), Safari (6 tabs), iMessage, Notes, Activity Monitor. 🤯 🚀 Performance Results: Within 1 minute, the memory usage shot up to 14GB, and the memory pressure indicator turned yellow (which is still manageable). Tasks Completed: Generated the AI background in Photoshop, masked layers in Lightroom, experienced only a slight lag (half a second) when scrubbing photos in Finder. WITHIN 1 MINUTE. 📝 Conclusion: The base M4 Mac mini is incredibly capable. If you focus on one task at a time (e.g., have only Lightroom open while editing photos and then move to video production afterward), the base model with 16GB is more than enough! However, if you’re someone who likes having everything open simultaneously, you might want to consider upgrading to the 24GB version of the base M4. 💻 My Choice: Personally, I’m opting for the M4 Pro (12-core) base configuration because I work at a fast pace after a few years of the same workflow. But for anyone working at a more normal pace, focusing on one thing at a time, the BASE M4 (16GB) at $599 (or $499 with student/military discount) is an excellent choice. Thanks for reading and I hope this helps! 🙌 God Bless you all. Jesus loves you!!!

I just purchased a new Mac Mini. I had a couple iMacs over the past couple decades. I wish now I had switched to the Mac Mini ages ago. It is great. Just have to get a few Thunderbolt/USB adapters (already on the way from Amazon) and then I will be good to go. I have no need to upgrade storage when I already have the external drives to hold my entire life several times over. I am taking my iMac and my wife’s old MacBook (she is getting a new MacBook Air) and giving the old ones to the kids (after they are wiped because I don’t need them seeing what porn we might watch and so they run better) for them to learn on. The hardest part of the setup was figuring out which power cord belonged to the monitor while I was contorted under the desk.

@@chaz4510 so great that he was infallible. Must have been on someone else’s watch that the original Mac design suffered from overheating and would burn out the flyback transformer. And the G4 cube had overheating problems. And the awful flat Apple mice... Steve Jobs was brilliant, but that doesn’t mean he never made mistakes. OTOH, he wanted Apple’s computers to have the same instant on feel as iPhone has. That’s where having all apps and windows reopen back to how they were after a restart came from, as one example. And also where the idea that you NEVER shutdown your Mac, and instead just put it to sleep. Then hit the power on the keyboard to wake it from sleep and it’s ready to go almost instantly. Also why you could start it from three keyboard and shutdown from an Apple menu command. So no, I don’t think Steve Jobs would have any problem with that the power button location on the Mac mini because he didn’t expect it to be used with any regularity.

@@DrewHughes-h3o my own personal preference is the most computing power possible in the smallest size possible. You’re right, our desks are crowed with monitors, keyboards, and the other flotsam and jetsam of digital workspace. And if I can get sufficient computing power in a size that doesn’t add to that clutter, I’m all for it. Normally my desktop computer is off of my desk entirely. That frees up space but does come along with inconvenience anytime I need to connect anything. This Mac mini is small enough that it can sit on the flat base of my monitor’s stand. Or I could mount it to the back of my monitor. Either way, I don’t loose any desk space. For the same reason I use a TKL keyboard, and a Kensington trackball as my pointing device And it’s quiet.
