Drake is not a white night. He benefited from the label he is suing. In 2018 Spotify premium members requested a refund for being bombarded with Drake ads. The dude is just butt hurt he got smoked, and it trying to punch the air and hoping he hits something. He’s literally spiraling. He will never be allowed to come back into the hip hop culture, he’s literally a fan (pun intended) and he never stood for what made hip hop what it is historically.

As an artist I'ma tell you the 30% licensing fee thing is a sign of omitting information. Spotify has a program for artist and labels called Discovery mode where for 30% of your royalties for the length of the campaign Spotify will push your music thru the algorithm and playlists. It may be a form of rigging inna sense but it is available to all artists (w over 25k monthly listeners)and labels not just specifically for Kendrick. Alit of what Drake is suing or petitioning for is regular industry practices it's just not know to the common public so it sounds bad. But he has a problem when he's called a PDF for being caught on camera many times over his career messing with underage girls time & time again, not just 1 time when he was super young himself, but many times over the course of his career even well into his mid 30s. Can't get mad at people calling you out for your actions, if you don't agree with the stuff your being called out for all you gotta do is simply not do that sh*t. Plenty of us grown adults who don't mess with minors every single day of our lives cuz it's not hard to not do sick sh*t like that at all, in fact it's easier than breathing & breathing is just natural to us we don't even have to think about how to breathe cuz we just do it naturally. He will lose... & here's why.. All of the things listed in his lawsuit were things the company did for him and other artists. Its called marketing. Spotify inflated Drake numerous times, to the point where people unsubscribed in 2016 when Scorpion rolled out. & during the rap battle, Drake fully intended to stream and tour off the songs aimed at Kendrick. Its just that Family Matters, Taylor Made, and Push ups didn't pop off like Euphoria, Meet the Grahams and Not Like Us. To sue because Kendrick's narrative succeeded, and yours didn't is stupid. UMG isn't responsible because you decided to get into an exchange of unfounded defamatory statements (a rap battle) with another signed artist.. Kendrick would've been in the same P.R. and financial debacle as Drake if the tables were turned. The difference is Kendrick wouldn't have sued over hurt feelings. Also the defamation suit will fail because 'hearsay' is not defamatory. Kendrick's verse in Not Like Us reads, " Say Drake I heard you like em young." The Supreme Court already ruled on this. Also the claim was made by an artist, not UMG.

I think he has a case, simply because Drake and Kendrick are both on the same label. If his audit proves that the label favored Kendricks potential of sales over Drake's then he has a point imo. Those UMG attorneys are going to violate Drake, especially on the Defamation front. Here's why: During the beef, who introduced the allegation of Drake's dealings with underaged girls ? Answer: Drake In Taylor Made, Drake introduced his public situation with Milli Bobbi Brown in his lyrics when he was trying to get ahead of Kendrick to diffuse the impact suspected responses from Kendrick. In 6:16 in LA, Kendrick claimed he was getting information from someone in Drake's camp. When Kendrick brought up the rumor of Drake being into underaged girls, it was angled as second hand information. In 'Not Like Us' Kendrick said, "Say Drake I heard you like em young.' Hearsay is not considered defamatory by the Supreme Court. & here's the last point... Drake said in Heart Pt. 6 that he fed Kendrick the information. & he will be questioned about those lyrics, which he will either have to confirm were true or made up.. Either way, its a loss for him. If the court is going to address the lyrics in the song, those attorneys will definitely bring that up. He has no reasonable argument for defamation. He also released songs that made defamatory statements against Kendrick under the UMG umbrella & had Kendrick lost, he would suffered the same P.R night mare that Drake is going through. They both took huge risks but Drake took the L. Looks like Kendrick had the foresight to cover himself legally while violating Drake at the same time 😂

Many indie artists deal with botting which ruins the algorithm and distrokid is notorious for having a relationship with spotify that protects them. botting is like the store adding sprinkles and cherries to your pie without consent that can help or hurt your sale but ultimately diminish your control over the “scientific process”. you cant measure what works or not and can be easily suppressed because you arent driving real sales and your work is marked as unsellable. botting in general is false advertising and an example of a method of suppression that can be used to keep artists out of reach of their audience. idk if what drake alludes to is true (like playing kdot when asked to play drake) but if so its not a surprise but he did benefit either thru work or active particpation or whatever so idc

This hasn’t been a drake hater year, yall act like ppl want to hate Drake, No we love his music, but Drake is doing exactly what ppl who don’t like him already knew, it’s the Drake fans that can’t seem to wrap their head around it, even tho it’s been blatantly in their face the entire year 🤦🏾♂️

Actually, adding context makes it make even less sense... on a whole bunch of levels. As a trial lawyer, those petitions are not legally sound, they contradict each other, they are unsupported by evidence, and are actually counter to the very evidence they are based on. They are misrepresenting facts to the court and I imagine when UMG's lawyers demonstrate that, it will be the end of the line for these suits that he is threatening to bring.

It's not haggling - "the discount" is a literal feature in the UI called Discovery mode where you pay a % of the royalties to Spotify in exchange for promoting the song within the app. So, Google Adsense would be a better analogy than pies. But also, stores literally do what you described, soda displays, aisle end caps, placement in the checkout line, etc.

Potentially, and should he win, record labels could forbid their Hip Hop artists from participating in the kind of competition in rap beefs and battles fearing legal ramifications. It doesn’t sound very good IMO.

would be nice if someone made a video on what drake should’ve done post beef like maybe cut down on the features and antics ts year maybe still put 100 gigs then go straight to putting out the pnd collab album.

4:27 this really just paints a picture imo, all of these ppl are pieces on a chessboard they aren’t even seen by Drake as real ppl but they aren’t willing to accept tht because hey, at least they get to talk to the guy. I can’t necessarily even say i hate Drake for tht when these ppl are to stupid to realize their constantly getting played over and over again especially Ak. Lastly not knowing Drakes arguably biggest album is genuinely unbelievable when it had 3 number 1s.

Honestly, there has never been a rapper that had more adversarial lyrics than Drake. His rap songs were mostly about rubbing his success in people's faces and sneak dissing. I would say, more than anyone. So i feel like this was an inevitable outcome especially because he came from the suburbs and is half jewish and kinda soft.

I think wanting out of his contract is actually a more likely scenario. Why? Because currently Drake is effectively an indentured servant -- in debt to the label. If he wants to do anything else -- for example, if he decides he would rather return to acting or even if he just wants to go on extended vacation, the kind of/size of contract he has with UMG means that he must constantly produce and perform. The idea that he is trying to negotiate a higher contract (his contract is already one of the highest in the industry) sounds unlikely or delusional. Drake is currently damaged goods. If I were the label, at this point, I would be worried now that I will not recoup the money I have invested in him. If anything, the label is currently trying to claw things back. Payola seems to be the default course of action. Drake's inquiries are ridiculous because 100% the label has receipts (allegedly) of the many times when they engaged in it on Drizzy's behalf. The problem is that all of it is illegal. Going up against a massive corporation like that or even just threatening them though is not wise. It might be cheaper for them to break their contract with him and pay any penalties than to have him trying to extort them.
