Thank you Ivan and gang! I met Ivan in 1989 and he is truly a gentleman. I will always be a fan of Toyota whether its playing in the desert sand or on the rocks of Moab. Thanks again for so many great memories!

People used to laugh at the Japanese when they were trying to enter these off road cars/trucks. But after a while the tone began to change when they started winning races. My dad has a 1982 4x4 Toyota pickup and everyone that sees it wants to buy it for cash right now. Why? Solid Axles, and the short wheel base. Toyota was way ahead of it's time back then. No one can deny that. Ford and GM actually engineered some of their later vehicles based on the Japanese designs. I'm not siding with either of them, I am just saying when you have drive, determination, and a willingness to engineer something better - Hard work always pays.

Very true. They were way ahead of their time. They perfected the small engine/small truck package. I grew up a huge Ivan Stewart fan....who wasn't? Then I gravitated to Chevy when I was a young teen and haven't looked back. The baja races of the 90s were huge. I remember the Nelson&Nelson trucks with Ragland winning the 1000 for 3 straight years from 95-97 in the Chevy thunder truck. Ford stirred the pot introducing the Raptor, now Chevy has the ZR2 with the ZRX on the horizon. Ram has the TRX coming, and Id like to see Nissan build their Warrior concept, but they are really struggling with sales right now. Will Toyota then follow suit....time will tell!

Toyota = Bulletproof Tested. Tried. True. I am impartial to names. If any other company built trucks as well or better than Toyotas, then I'd drive them. I don't care about names. But nobody else does build a vehicle as consistent and reliable as Toyota. So I drive Toyota.

That’s exactly what it was. 3L 300HP DOHC V6. About 1993 or so they got the 5VZ-FE 3.4L 360HP engine that ran until 1996 when they got the first Lexus race tuned V8 in 1997
