How ironic that a British film about its ship HMS Surprise should bring Boccherini's music to a world audience. It's superb music, where've you been all my life?

Boccherini was Italian (born 1742), and thereby was an Italian (duhhhh), where he learnt to compose. He emigrated to Spain in 1761 when eventually he was employed by the King of Spain, whom he managed to piss off by not composing music according to his majesty's wishes. He died in poverty in 1805. His anecdote, 0:14, is somewhat out of order, but apologies accepted. He epitomised Italian baroque (Vivaldi excepted), but was very much able to add a Spanish flavour with his frequent inclusion of flandangos (hey which really worked). A human being, but also a superb composer, whose legacy, of course, is his music. I think I would be privileged to share a drink with him.
@viebbdlaurient67972 жыл бұрын

The three composers I'd most like to share a drink with are Signori Boccherini, Vivaldi and Mozart.

Its not baroque, but neoclassical period. Haendel is praised in England as an English musician, no matter he was a German from Hannover, and he composed in Italian style. We are aware of the fact that he was an Italian individual, but, after 40 years living in Madrid do not expect us, Madrid people, to see him as a foreigner.

Thank you so much for this! I really appreciate you explaining in detail what Boccherini had in mind when he composed this piece. I had heard previously that he made the request to his publisher not to release this music outside of Madrid. Thank God he didn't listen! The world would be a whole lot poorer for missing out on this wonderful piece of music.
