Beautiful, thanks for showing us her engine working. I can't believe she was scrapped, so sad.

It is beyond sad to see these classic boats get put down like an old hound dog Thanks for commenting Captain Freddy

Our survey company did a hydro graphic resurvey in 1975 on what was then called Queen Charlotte Islands and we used this tug for our floating office, bunk, diner and heli pad for the chopper. Great ol boat.

I was with Dave on that project in Haida Gwaii on the Ivanhoe. The Helipad was a really small target when the boat was underway, a testament to the ability of the pilot, Walt Lasher of Okanagan Helicopters.

So much of the equipment that built BC ends up this way, so little appreciation for history in this province. Seeing this video makes me want to cry, the Ivanhoe was one of the most beautiful tugs on the coast. At least we still have the “Master”, for now. One of the biggest problems is getting funding to preserve industrial heritage.
@LANDSEAAIRCANADA3 жыл бұрын
Yes Clint it is true industrial history is less than popular in todays flash in the pan world, we have been documenting many aspects of Marine, Logging, Fishing and other industrial operations since 1993 never once holding out our hands for grants or support, as commercial photographers we have channeled some resources into filming and archiving this important history and we continue today a mission to document as much as possible to what end...who knows ? Thanks for watching & commenting

Sad to see the old tugs like this gone. I used to watch other Kingcome tugs like the Harmac Fir and Cedar tow booms by Powell River when I was a kid there in the 70's and 80's. I have some B and W sketches of some of the old Pacific Towing boats hanging in my house - the Gillking, Chieftain III and Dauntless II. I believe they are all gone now too.
@LANDSEAAIRCANADA6 жыл бұрын
You have some great memories and the art work is something we here have collected over the years, the tugs you mention our among the classics Although we think the CHIEFTAIN III is part of the Pacific Casholot fleet in Campbell River BC and used for Log towing... Thanks for stopping by Jillian all the best

What a great ship! I've been the bilge rat on a lot of old ships. Open valve gear needing oil every 3-4 hours. I think Les Whithey owned this for awhile before the Point Hope, a smaller tug. Grew up either on the beach or real close by. And the rhythm of the engine sounds actually does soothe the savage soul!

So sad to see. I remember her when she was running as a charter vessel. I lived on my old trawler then and was anchored in the harbor and used to see her often. Brings tears to my eyes. :(

We hear you John, we boarded the IVANHE at ALLIED shipyard with the folks who purchased the classic tug, we set out for a sea trial so they could see the tug running We cruised over to Point Atkins and into False creek along the way they spoke about the work that would be done to convert the tug to a charter boat, that included removing the which and extending the house work, it was a sad day for us A few years later the tug was scrapped at Arrow's yard in Vancouver and once again a historic tug is no more... Thanks for watching John

Thanks for the share. yep - It's just so damn sad to see 'em go. I love all the old boats, but the TUGS are really near & dear to my heart. Goes back to when I worked on 'em as a teenager, I guess.

We'll, that was a kick in the balls. This is what happens when stuff falls into the wrong hands, same with cars, planes, houses. Now its gone for good, what a terrible shame.
@LANDSEAAIRCANADA6 жыл бұрын
History has little value today as most people look forward and have no clue as to the origin of most things in the world, and if the subject is industrial by nature it is sure to be forgotten given enough time, the loss of this tugboat is no surprise to us as we saw it coming after the conversion it went under to become a charter boat, now we wonder if the classic steam tugboat SS MASTER will suffer the same fate ? thanks for commenting.
@BigfootCountry8 жыл бұрын
Such a shame that this would happen .The Tugboats are the work horses of the harpers. With out them a lot of ships could not navigate and steer their way thou the harpers also when a ship is in trouble the Tugboat can help pull it . T Y for sharing this video with us.

Thanks for sharing this very cool video, my only means to have seen Ivanhoe. It's heartbreaking to know this vlassic beauty could not somehow been saved & ended up scrap. We needlessly loose so much our rich heritage all due to the almighty dollar, we keep allowing it & there'll be no historic vessels left, which is a scary thought & why I am so intent on creating replicas. As always an excellent video with outstanding videography, thanks for sharing Ivanhoe!!
