Metro Trains pass railroad crossing on Stewart street

This crossing on Stewart Street in Santa Monica had activated when I was reviewing the features and I got startled. We caught the Metro train passing by.

The crossings in my town retain there old CNW signals and one of them has an ASC E Bell medium tone. The line is owned by Union Pacific. 45 trains a day. As a bonus we have Route 23&38 crossing each other and a railroad crossing. The only instance of that

The gate mechanisms actually balance the weight out with the 25 pound counterweights. That’s why it can lift the gate so easily

For those of you that don't know the Metro expo line uses former Southern Pacific right of way. Several Metro lines use former SP row, as SP owned the Pacific electric system which operated its routes over the same row Metro Rail now uses. The PE operated the airline over the same route as the expo line. After Pacific Electric Southern Pacific used the for freight into the late 80's. Of course Metro/LA County purchased the abandoned route in the 90s and now we have the expo line.

Safetran is owned by Siemens. Also there is a right of way owned by Portland, Oregon’s transit authority (TriMet) where the MAX light rail trains run. It opened in 1998 and before that it was operated by the Burlington Northern starting in 1970. Before that the Oregon Electric railroad by Northern Pacific (1908-1933) operated there. Like I said, the MAX blue line runs operates there right now and the right of way goes from downtown Beaverton to downtown Hillsboro, Oregon. There are photos of what it looked like with the BN. Look up “Burlington Northern railroad Hillsboro, OR”. Also, that right of way was sitting there with no tracks from the mid 1930’s to the late 1960’s

1 time I went to Atlanta and we went trainspotting but we found only 1 train it was an NS - 9 and the number was 8009 let me know if you find that exact - 9 train and I actually slapped the gate and slapped my head on the gate

and additionally, the precursor to the Expo Line was the Santa Monica Air Line. Red Cars ran until the 50's and Southern Pacific freight until the 80's
