Just finished this arc and was blindsided by the ending. I was on the fence about Ivarr most of the time, but at one point was in the camp of solidly liking him. I suspected that he may be a psychopath but rejected that idea based on his love for his brother, his mentoring of Ceolbert, and his friendship with Eivor. What he did at the end firmly cemented psychopathy imo. In the end I denied him Valhalla, purely based on the notion that Valhalla is for those who chase honor and glory. He did chase glory to the end, but went about it in dishonorable ways. There was a time when he definitely would've deserved Valhalla, being a glorious king-killer and having so many victories. But at the end I felt like what he did overshadowed all of that. There's nothing honorable about betrayal, and he betrayed both Ceolbert and Eivor.

I wish they would've fleshed out Ceolbert, Ivarr and others more but in the games defense I felt really sad and empty after this quest, 2 deaths that couldn't be stopped and that didn't need to happen.... and the way Rhodri hangs is just brutal but is very similar to when we first met Ivarr which was a nice touch. I still have many problems with Valhalla but I remember I spawned on a synchronization point and took a good 5 minutes looking at the horizon to process what just happened with things being eerily silent than usual.

Ivarr died a dishonorable warrior he broke his oaths, he killed a defenseless kid who trusted him, he then pulled a trick on Eivor by that talking part something that and honorable warrior doesn't do. Ivarr was very dishonorable by the end and not worthy of Valhalla so i denied him Valhalla. I did however send Dag to valhalla that man was an honorable warrior even though he didn't really trust Eivor he still followed the orders of his Jarl by listening to Eivor. And the more and more Eivor went out for glory instead of staying in the clan the more Dag took care of the clan. And through misscommunication Dag thought Eivor never searched for Sigurd causing Dag to think Eivor was a traitor so he fought him. Dag fought with Honor never tricking Eivor. Dag fought for the honor of his leader and clan and for what he believed in. Dag was a honorable warrior who deserved Valhalla. Ivarr did not.

When I fought Ivarr, I had the perk where time moved slower when you dodged an attack. I use a dagger to be faster and all, so when I dodged, I had time to stab him maybe 8 times a second. After what he did to Ceolbert, he deserved it. I was legitimately torn up that he went by himself to cheer up Ivarr, and I felt like Ivarr and I were on the same page with making Rhodri suffer for what he did to Ceolbert. I really felt like I'd met Ivarr on the battlefield, and we really met there. But after his confession, just for a shot at glory, I wanted him to suffer. He only hit me once, from the brief talking we did during the fight. Otherwise, he never got in a shot. It felt ironic to me: my weapon of choice, the buildup of a warrior before only ever landing a hit due to dishonorable means, and the denial of his aspirations
@bluelight8025 Жыл бұрын
If you read the letters in the castle, King Rhodri just wanted to retire and a peaceful life. Ceolbert saw him as a mentor and father figure and he betrayed him. I did send him to Valhalla why? Because I don't think he really killed Ceolbert. 1-As he was saying " I pushed this dragon dagger into his heart", but the dagger was Ceolbert's lower abdominal 2-Ivarr is all about glory, he brags about his many kills. If he killed Ceolbert, then he would either have to admit to killing someone much loved by both himself and his allies, or he'd have to keep it to himself. Furthermore, on the way to kill Radvi, he names half a dozen nobles and kings that he kills yet leaves Ceolbert off the list - granted there are other reasons for this. Ivarr is obsessed with Valhalla. Murder doesn't get you into Valhalla. You must kill your opponent honourably, or at least memorably. Murdering Ceolbert and leaving him to rot in a cave wouldn't get him anything 3-Coelbert didn't seem angry at him. As Ceolbert was dying, he said Ivarr's name several times but didn't make any attempt to show that he was angry with him or that he had been the one to attack him. He was just gazing at the sky 4-Valhalla. As we all know, Ivarr is obsessed with Valhalla. He was frantic to get an Axe for Ceolbert when he was dying so that he would gain access to Valhalla. In the cave, there was no Axe nor beside him. If Anything, Ivarr would have placed the axe in his hand then finished him off. condemning him to Helheim would be something that an enemy or a Saxon/Briton would do. 5-Eivor. It was plain to see that Eivor didn't want to fight Ivarr - at least not until Ivarr brought up him killing Ceolbert. So it's quite likely that he was egging Eivor into the fight. 6-Revenge. Ceolbert had just assisted in killing one of their top generals and dealing a fatal wound to the Britons. Some of them were probably peeved and said, 'Hey, I'm gut that guy when I see him.
