It is traumatic, sending strength to you both!! Daily physio is key and eventually hydrotherapy. Kevin does that once a month even now! He has had two surgeries though sadly, but hopefully no more!

Great summary. I am 4.5 weeks after surgery and he started holding his bladder and standing up in week 3. I can empathize with the expressing but my guy dribbled urine constantly for two weeks!!!!hope he is closer to full recovery!

He’ll get there!! Kevin still does this thing where where when he stops to pee outside he starts walking off too soon but before the pee has stopped !! Hopefully he’ll stop that soon! I’m thinking perhaps his muscles are still a bit weak so he doesn’t know that he’s still peeing! He doesn’t dribble in the house though so that’s all good!!

Thank-you for sharing Kevins story! I pray for a safe recovery! I am taking 2 of my Pugs in 2 days time for suspected IVDD and I am soo so nervous. Ah I’m so glad you found this!! Honestly it’s hard, especially emotionally but just be prepared to give them the best care and they will be ok!! KB was stage 4 and it was terrifying but he is now walking and playing and almost back to his old self 3 months later! Stay strong, you’ve got this!! Xxx

Just found your video by chance... my sausage dog Rufus had back surgery for IVDD at the willows 3 weeks ago! He’s recovering slowly at home, wishing Kevin a speedy recovery... would love to see more updates in his progress xx

EllieActionFilms The willows have been absolutely amazing! Can’t thank them enough, Rufus was discharged on 6th August so they could have been in together at the same time?! He’s doing well Thankyou, he was grade 5 so he’s got a long road to recovery but he can put a tiny bit of weight through his legs now whilst using the sling. Lovely to see abit of progress! Aww my terrier is day 3 from hospital and it’s so roughhh he hates being confined and the bathroom accidents are “a mess” but this video gave me confidence! Thank god for wfh bc idk if i would’ve been able to be here for him

Thanks for Sharing. We have a 2 yr old Corgi that just had the same surgery at Virginia Tech and the Dr said her outlook is Great. Our Bella had surgery yesterday and is supposed to come home this weekend. Any advice? It would be Very Appreciated.

Ah it’s such a stressful time on first diagnosis but I’m glad the Dr said the outlook is great! My advice honestly would be clear your schedules - she’ll need a lot of care in the first few weeks and how involved you can be in her rehab will determine how quickly she recovers. Definitely get a hind leg lead/carrier for her back legs and a soft crate for her to chill in. KB was on a lot of pain meds so for the first few weeks was super sleepy in recovery. Wishing you all the best with it!!

Hi Nina, I think mine is from Pets Corner but if you search ‘soft crate’ on most major pet stores they should have them. You’ll want to get a large one so that they can turn around when they need to but without bending too much, plus gives them space to lie straight so they’re not too curled up. I hope the recovery goes well, you’ve got this!! ❤️
