I am riveted by this. Pogorelich adds to the monument of every work he plays to make even more monumental the scope of Music itself, and this regardless of any pre-conceived ideas or conceptions, which can only serve as misconceptions within the broader scheme of more spiritual and aesthetically satisfying things. One thing I know for sure the world of the piano is the better for him having been part of it!

This is IMHO one of the most important pianists/artists of our time. His uniqueness, sincerity, creativity ,expressivity, skill etc. is tremendously powerful IF his listeners can shed their preconceived notions as to HOW a piece of great music should be played and interpreted . Standardization, traditional interpretation is not something he strives for, obviously! He is the kind of artist who can keep the classics alive and interesting in our time . Entertaining isn't his priority. His feel and love for what he plays is far deeper than phoney facial expressions and such antics. Look elsewhere for such things . Instead, be open to rediscovery of great intense music. The only objection I personally have is that , even though art like this transcends politics, I would love to see him play in countries that aren't oppressive to people as are communist countries like China. It would be wonderful if he'd come to the USA ,Canada etc. instead. May pogorelich continue a long time to play and enrich the world of music!

You mean he democratic countries like Canada, which refused the russian pianist Malofeev to make him pay Putin actions, and also which had a well known nazi being applauded in the parliament? The joke, yeah.

i find that ivo can sap the sweetness from chopin-which is not necessarily a bad thing, since there are many renditions ou there that put one in a diabetic coma. He brings danger and surprise to the piece, which makes me listen more closely - definitely not like listening to a top 40 type chopin anymoee. I can understand how some , maybe many, folks wouldnt like it. I do

I really don't like this interpretation. Every line is being exaggerated to the point that the music is not flowing. For music to be touching and expressive, phrasing needs to be subtle, with urgency and forward momentum and rhythm. Pogorelich's playing is complete opposite. For example, try listen to 9:20-9:40 and compare with Rubinstein and you will get what I mean.
you wont pull off this kind of rubato if you practice for the rest of your life

"Chopin´s playing evoked all the sweet and sorrowful voices of the past. Chopin sang the tears of music...in a whole gamut of different forms and voices, from that of the warrior to those of children and angels..." Bohdan Zaleski, polish poet, personal diary 2 feb 1844. "Under the fingers of Chopins´s hand the piano became the voice of an archangel, an orchestra, an army, a raging ocean, a creation of the universe, the end of the world." Solange Clesinger. Ivo is the archetype of the modern artist, the isolated and courageous master, who finds his own way to new heights of expression, no matter the prejudices or the barriers of misunderstanding raised against him. He stands alone at the beginning of a new epoch like a prophet, mapping the routes that art would take. Pogorelich´s cathartic and mystical sound, is concerned with the ultimate mysteries that transcend this world. His grandiose, colossal and majestic art, symbolizes the struggle of the human soul to find release from the bonds of its material body. His exquisite and overwhelming music continues to echo throughout the entire performance and beyond, so the action is at once momentary, eternal and complete. Pogorelich´s interpretations are indescribably beautiful and irresistible. His sound is pure poetry and extremely emotional, yet entirely unsentimental. We are hypnotized by his new and radical naturalness, by his nobility, dignity, severity and sobriety; transporting us to states of wonder, ecstasy, meditation, redemption, love and compassion. Sound and Silence, Life and Death, Time and Space; collapse into the Eternal moment of Infinity. - THE KING OF CHESS - You are the protégé of Death contemplating nailed in your Grave the game of Life. You're the one with the eyes on the nails of a Cross. Your hands caress tenderly the blind backs of your soldiers. Your armed and soulless guardians they ask you kneeling that you nail a cross to their chests because they are afraid of not being crucified at the desired time. Loyal painters advance drawing you the secret roads of Death. Your steel tears destroy when they fall the bare toes of your feet. Over the Earth keyboard the rain unearths the thousand hands of war. ! Oh King of Chess living pain of your childhood! ! You die for not winning and you also die to win!
